What firearm (or bow) did you kill your first deer with?

Very long deer body wise
LOL...One typically hears of how heeavy a deer was, or how big the rack was. I do believe this is the first time I've heard mention of how LONG a deer was ;)

30-06 Model 70 that I picked up used at a Gun Show.

I dropped a doe in her tracks from a tripod stand about 30 yards away. That was around 0800 in the morning. By 2000 that evening, i sat down with a beer having cleaned and processed that day.....

I can still remember it quite vividly.

Sears-Roebuck 12 ga pump gun. 28" barrel, mod choke. No. 1 Buckshot, 3" load.

Same gun I killed every deer I've ever killed, except one, with.

Standers surrounded the swamp, drivers took the dogs in. Dogs jumped and deer scattered like covey of quail kicked out of the weeds. Dogs were running everywhere. I spotted a doe on the other side of the little beaver pond I was watching and dropped her. I think we killed seven deer on that drive.

Remington 700 in 30.06.

My son got his first deer with the same gun last year. It is now his gun. If for some reason he ever needs to get rid of it the deal we made would be for him to let me know first.

My late dad's Marlin 1936 in .30-.30 Dad was eighteen when he bought it for $5.00 from a bar patron who needed money for a few more glasses of beer.
I am now 72 and still have the Marlin.
The buck was a fine eight point.

I bagged my first deer with a custom K98 re-chambered to 6MM Remington, nice little Leupold sitting on top of it. I will never own a gun that nice...

Browning X-Bolt Medallion .30-06 with a Federal 150 grain soft point. Took me several years to get my first deer.

November 17th, 1985, 13 years old, about 5 miles outside of Crockett, Texas. Wood stocked Remington 700ADL .30-06, 3-9X32 Tasco Scope, Federal 165 Grain BTSP. I was sitting on a platform in a tree about 20 feet up watching an open field, and after taking a 3 finger pinch of Copenhagen Snuff a Whitetail Spike started walking out in the middle of the field. The little buck was grazing about 120 yards away, I put the crosshairs right behind the shoulder, and fired. The spike kicked in the after burners and began running towards the really thick stuff, so I fired again, hitting him in the back ham. At the shot the deer turned almost completely sideways while still running so I shot again and missed. The deer ran 100 yards into the hardwoods, crossed a creek, and expired at the top of the far bank. The buck field dressed all of 90 pounds, and it amazed me how much punishment that little deer took and still ran that far.

I noticed a whole bunch of folks have taken their first deer with shotguns. My second deer was taken with a Remington Sportsman 48 12 Gauge with Remington Sluggers.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Parker Hale 1200 Super in 7mm Remington Magnum. Shot a whitetail at 60 feet on the Teton River in central Montana.

The friend who took me hunting that day still has that rifle. Like an idiot, I passed up a chance to buy it years ago. Still kicking myself in the behind for that one. :banghead:

For me, it was a 55# Damon-Howatt Hunter (recurve). All of my other deer (so far) have fallen to my 60# Howard Hill Halfbreed (longbow).

Model 94 Winchecter in 32 Special. It was my grandfathers on my moms side. She remembers going to pick it up with my aunt in 1939. He never shot anything with it. My dad ended up with it and shot a pile of deer with from the early 50s to around 67 when he got his 30/06. My brother, who is 13 years older, used it for several years and still has it. Shot my first deer with it in 1978.

870 Express 20 gauge with a Remington Copper Solid. Same gun and round I'll use this year.

Deer Kill ?

I've got the guns(Mauser 8mm, Mosin/Nagant 91/30, SKS, one 12 ga., and two 20 ga.), but I 'aint got up the nerve or malice to kill Bambi, nor her (his?) kin yet. Heck, I won't even buy veal at the super market. Did you ever read up on how they raise/treat/prepare those poor little calves?

I'm just mean enough to buy fish, chicken, and turkey though.
Huh, I guess I flunked that test.

Just give me some cooked dry beans and cornbread (Johnny Cake to some), and maybe a yellow onion and /or hot peppers, and that's a meal.

Dog gone, I must be a dang vegetarian!

I still like to shoot all my guns though.:)

Yeah. :D Head to rafters and rear hoofs almost on the floor. Didn't have a good scale.

Mossberg 500, 3 inch OOBK, on a dog drive in Alabama. Got 4, the fifth got away. However most of the deer I've taken were with .270 Win. The 45/70 is closing in on the .270 though.

My first deer kill was a ungainly hefty chunk of metal at a relatively low velocity. an 87 cavalier.

- Since it constantly backfired like the LTD in Uncle buck and tended to shoot catalytic converter and muffler bits out the tail pipe. it counts as a projectile weapon, lol.

The 12ga was still cased and on the seat. Never made it to the deer stand that day.
apologies for the derail, but it remains my only deer kill to date.
