Shot in the dark here, but I was wondering if there were any types of firearms I could legally fly into New York City, either La Guardia or Newark. I generally fly with firearms, but recently work has me doing laps around NY from time to time. I just assumed nothing doing, but perhaps I've been wrong.

As I am generally either in the hotel or at the office the entire time in NY, is there any type of firearm I could take with me, on general principles, whether shotgun, rifle, etc? And does anyone know the regulations for transporting/storing said firearms while in the City?

None. Zero. Nada. Zip.

Unless you already have the proper licenses in place for each firearm before you get there (and you have to be a resident to get the licenses).

You bring ANY firearm into NYC (even black powder IIRC) and you will permanently lose your right to keep and bear arms. Period.

you can only travel thru without stopping in NYC with a firearm. People have been arrested because their connecting flights have been thru LGA or JFK and they did not have permits for the guns even though the were only connecting flights. Some people have been able to connect without a problem. However the chances are probably not in your favor.
You absolutely cannot bring any type of firearm into NYC unless you are LEO an then only certain types of LEO are allowed.

So even black powder is out? Amazing. When did they get that through? How can I verify that?
I don't know for 100% sure that they are banned in NYC, however none of the Black Powder catalog sites will ship to NYC.

I don't see anything specific here other than muzzle loading handguns require a license (although this is the state dunno about the city) http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/NYSL.pdf

So there's a chance that muzzle loading long guns may be legal in NYC. But I'd still expect to get hassled even if they are.

It used to be that you did not need a permit for black powder stuff in NYC however I believe that they did change it recently although I can't for the life of me find where it says it. This is just hearsay from different dealers and gun owners here in NYC

And now the former mayor of that joint is trying to convince us he is pro-gun:barf:

OK, a different twist then. I recently purchased a high end airsoft 1911 in Tokyo for practice around the house. From those who would know, would THAT be a problem, if I took it to practice in the hotel room? (almost tongue in cheek.... almost....)

I've long wondered why the NRA hasn't put it all together and sued NYC back into bankruptcy....Well perhaps the upcoming supreme court looksie might actually penetrate the fog of totalitarianism.......

airsoft is illegal (air pistols and such) and you may be joking about the squirt gun but Rudy passed a law that outlawed realistic looking toy guns. So if your squirtgun looks like a real gun it es VERBOTEN!

Hey Gaiudo
if you got time, I can take you to the one and only range in Manhattan and show you how really bad we have it here.

Squirtguns .... maybe. Don't quote me on that .........

A very small squirt gun that could hold a tear drop of water, don't even think about a super soaker

a sling shot if it dosen't have the wrist brace on it..

High capacity squirtguns are banned due to the Assault Weapons ban still in effect in NY. Don't even think of a barrel shroud either, you know what happens when you flip those little things up.

As far as NYC, yeah, lost cause. It's a headache to find all the laws, it's a headache to interprete them all, and it's more of a headache to find a NYPD officer who knows the laws. Handgun, rifle, and shotgun licenses in NYC to own, doubt they'd really let you just fly one in without a hassle.

What guns can you take to NYC?

None!!!!

Why?

Because the ciminals wanting to take your money or worse are protected by the NYC government.

Former mayor running for Dog Catcher, no freaking way would I vote for him.

I'll be in town from Wednesday evening through Saturday morning. If you want to check out the gun range in manhattan, hnk45acp, drop me a PM.

None, zero, zip.....Unless you're a friend of the mayor or other high ranking official, a resident nationally syndicated columnist, a rapper, sports figure, or any common criminal/terrorist - so long as you're a recognized minority.....

IOW in NYC, the 'good guys' get their guns taken and the scum get target practice on the legally disarmed. And a former mayor endorsing this travesty of justice is seeking the position of POTUS as a "Second Amendment" advocate...... >MW

New York, New York

I was in NY on business a few years ago, before that on leave many years ago. Both times I felt the need for a great deal of personal protection. Then I discovered their attitude toward guns. Haven't been back. Don't plan to be. I intend to live to a ripe old age. NY doesn't see it that way.

Oh yeah, I live in California, by the way!

New York, the city that never sleeps... because if you close your eyes, you've had it.
Actually, movie-wise atleast, Chicago was "The City that Never Sleeps," and if you shut your eyes there, yeah ... maybe you'd never open 'em again!
New York City was "The Naked City." Dubbed that in 1948 by Mark Hellinger, who took it from a title of a collection of photos by a photographer named "WeeGee." The photo collection is available today -- and is pretty graphic for '48 standards. "Naked" can mean "without protection" so the term "Naked City" is not inappropriate, really, for Gotham ... Which by the way, means "city of fools" --- !*SNIP!!*
