My nephew turned 18 in May and wants a new rifle but does not know exactly what rifle will fit his likes. He is small for his age, 5' 5" tall and 105 lbs. My Calvary Version 6.5 Carcano is a perfect fit in size for him.
He wants a light rifle and the Carcano is right at the right weight at just a hair over 6 lbs. He really dislikes bolt action rifles. He prefers in order a Semi, pump, or a lever action with detachable mag.
So I need some suggestions so he can look at some to fit his idea of his perfect deer rifle. Budget is $500.00 or less including scope. Must weigh close to 6 lbs, have light recoil, be 24 caliber or larger, around 16 1/2 inch barrel with detachable mag and can take a deer at at least 150 to 200 yards.
Preferably a semi auto or pump. What guns should I be looking for to fit in his perfect gun idea? He likes the Saiga 308 but it is too high, too heavy, and to much recoil in the 308. Probably a 243 would be about right for the recoil part.
