I'm hoping someone can help me with a grip dilemma. I own a Ruger Redhawk .44 with the 4" barrel and the standard Hogue finger-groove grips. These grips just don't fit my hand very well and I think they're causing me to group inconsistantly since I shoot pretty well with my other Ruger 4" (GP100). I also feel the recoil from this gun much more in the web of my hand than with my dad's S&W 629 which also has rubber finger-groove grips. The backstrap on his S&W is covered in rubber, though. I'm thinking the main problem for me is that the Hogue grips are a little fat in the palm area and pretty long (the distance from the backstrap to the trigger gaurd) for my tastes.

I am wondering what grips would fit on my gun and what grips would be more comfortable. I know comfort is a personal preference but I can tell you I like the grips on my friend's Super Redhawk Alaskan .454. Those feel great! They have a cushioned covered backstrap as opposed to the exposed metal backstrap on my .44. Would these grips fit my Redhawk? I'm sure the standard wood grips that come on the other versions of the Redhawk would fit. Are those any good? I really don't like the looks of the Pachmayr grips that are offered. I like the looks of the fancy wood finger-groove grips from Badger, but they look to be just about the exact same dimensions as the rubber Hogues that came on the gun. Anyone have any experience with these? Has anyone else had the same problems with the Hogue grips that come on the 4" Redhawk? Thanks.

I also didn't like the grips that came with my Redhawk. I replaced them with wood Hogue grips that I got for a good price at auction. Unfortunately, they were even worse (though much nicer looking).

I'll probably get Pachmyr Presentations sooner or later.

If you like the original grips that came on Rugers, you can still get them from Midway. You can get inserts from various places, but go to the Ruger Forum and look up 41magnum.

If you can find them the Uncle Mikes grips are smaller than Pachmeyers and also cover and cushion the backstrap. They do not have the finger grooves that never fit me either.
