Well, some of you may have read previous threads of mine regarding my 4" Redhawk .44 and the HORRIBLE Hogue rubber grips that came with it. So after much debating, I finally decided to order a set of factory Ruger rosewood grips.

What a difference! I can finally look at my Redhawk without getting sick. As you can see in the photo, the Hogue grips add about 3/4" of length from backstrap to trigger guard. Plus they've got a fat bulge in the middle and the grooves were just too pronounced. When getting a full shooting grip on the gun, the backstrap was recoiling into my thumb joint. Now the backstrap hits the meaty part of the web between thumb and trigger finger. So although I know that if anything, the recoil with these new wood grips may be sharper, I'll be able to hold onto the gun better and absorb the recoil in a softer part of my hand.

I ordered from Brownells, about $50 including shipping. Well worth it, even if it's just for the looks!

Just thought I'd share my success story with anyone wondering what their 4" Redhawk would look like with factory Ruger grip panels. Enjoy!

I'd say it's a considerable improvement in the looks department. I've never fired a Redhawk before so I have no grip preference. I'm considering ordering a pair of similar rosewood grips for my Vaquero, but I'm also feeling swayed by ivory.
