I was wondering if I can get a good gun safe new or used for the stated price? I saw one at walmart for about 300 or so it looked very decent but I haven't seen it there since. Does anyone here know if walmart still sells these safes? Also I'am in the south west florida area so if anyone in this area can recommend a safe dealer who can help me that would be good to. Thanks in advance for any help.

Seems like both Walmarts in my area are getting completely out of the gun business. Is it the same elsewhere? Everytime I go in, I notice fewer and fewer items pertaining to guns. Must be part of the PC move. It really chaps my a$$ that owning a gun is looked at in such a bad light. People at work think I am some crazy-mad gun nut that's just gonna open up and kill everybody. Stupid media. I'm gonna stop watchin' and readin' it.... So there.

P.S. Sorry I stole your thread. Check Sam's. Seems like they always have the safes that you saw at Wally World.

I also bought a safe from Wal-Mart and I am well satisfied with it. Don't think all the safes at Wal-Mart are the same, they aren't. Sentry Safe manufactures the ones I have seen in the store. There is one safe that is way ahead of the others. The Sentry Executive has hidden hinges, what appears to be a 3/16ths door and 1/8" walls. The main difference aside from the thicker metal used is that the executive safe has 12 active locking bolts, 5 each on the hinge side and the open side and 1 each top and bottom All the others I looked at had 3 on the open side and 1 each top and bottom, none on the hinge side, and the sheet metal looked about 10 guage.

I was worried at first because the safe only weighs 375 pounds, but if it is anchored to the floor with the included hardware I dont think anything short of a torch is going to get inside.

The biggest drawback I found is that it is just a bit too small. If it is configured for both rifle and pistols, the long gun storage is just big enough for 8 of my long guns if I pack them tight.
For the money, I think $475, it is a good value.

You might try other Wally Worlds in your area.

I got a Sentry Executive from Lowes for 399 at Xmas ..for me....from Santa...yea, thats the ticket!!!

I have seen some nice full size Canon's with that grey speckle finish for $799. My Sam's club also has a nice looking Winchester for 6 or $799. You should be able to find a safe with all the right features at the top of your price range. Look for a S&G group II lock and fire protection. Most any safe will have all the other standard features if it has those two.

I don't care for the Walmart Sentry's. I have talked to a professional locksmith and safe-cracker about them and he says that the locks are very sloppy. Sometimes you can be off by as much as four digits in either direction on any number in the combination and the lock will open.

I just bought a Sentry 14 gun safe from Walmart. It has hidden hinges and 5 locking bolts. Three on the side and one on the top and bottom. It was $330.00 but was marked down to $279.00.

I just got the Sentry R2820 from Costco for $499 after the $150 rebate. It was delivered right to the door in about a week. I am very satisfied with it. It has 12 locking bolts, and concealed hinges. I think the sale ended. They have one just like the one I got except with a keypad lock instead of a mechanical dial. Its 600 or so. The costco web site is www.costco.com. Wait for a sale. You dont have to belong to costco to buy online either.

Larry, check along the hinge line of the door, you may have 3 more bolts there too. I thought I had only seven till I discovered the other 5 there.
