Another thread got me to thinking about my prized gun. Not that it is worth a ton of money, or any collectors wet dream or anything. Its just a Ruger M77 in .308 Why? Because it was my dads gun and I got it when he died. I've been looking at this gun for years growing up and always wanted to shoot it. Now it's mine and I will never part with it. I also have an old Remington Targetmaster .22 that was my grandads, then my dads and now mine, that I also will never sell. Got any guns you will never sell for reasons like this?

none. but supposedly im inheriting all my dads guns when he passes on which is sort of depressing me now that i think about it lol

Several. One was dad's pre-64 Winchester Model 70, re-chambered to 300 Win Mag in 1963.

I kept it for a couple of weeks, and then gave it to my son. I'm probably not going to hunt elk again, and grandpa's elk medicine needs to do what its always done.

My J.C. Higgins (Sears) Model 31 .22 semi auto. It was my grandfathers, he died when my dad was 9. About 20 years ago my grandma gave it to my aunt. About a year ago my aunt gave it to me. It is a fine rifle, it will shoot short, long, and long rifle. I've only shot it once since I've gotten it, its an heirloom, not a regular shooter. I hope to teach my kids to shoot with it one day and eventually pass it on to them.

My Grandfather's Winchester .410 model 42. It has seen some use in its day and I had no idea they are so desirable until recently. It will stay in the family.

Greatgranpa's double shotgun, unsure of make, but dates to early 1900s

Granpa's WWII bringback 1918 stamped Erfurt Luger

Granpa's WWII Savage M720, that he bought off one of his crewmembers.

Dad's single-shot Savage .22

Dad's Marlin Golden Mountie takedown lever-action .22

Uncle gave me an old Pietta 1851 Confederate Navy

Strangest one... my gf's dad gave me a 1849 Colt Pocket Model

Yeah Larry Ashcraft, I don't know grading percents but this thing has seen some use. It is still worth more than any of my guns. I am sure that my grandfather did not pay much for it in the 40s or 50s. He is not a collector of things but a user of them. All my guns will also be well used when someone inherits them.

Lets see my Noble 60, Browning Nomad and Westernfield were my Dads. My .30-40 Krag was my Greatgrandads. I'm the 4th gen. to own the Krag.

Paternal Grandfather's sporter Argentine Mauser, rechambered in .308
Same grandfather's Remington model 12 .22
My wife's grandfather's Savage model 99 .243

That's a tough one....I still have a few of my Dad's guns. I also still have the 22cal Rem #550-1(I think) semi auto that I was given by my aunt back in 1953. I was 12 at the time. My folk were not happy about the gift. I still shoot it often.

I am forgetting some, being honest it hurts to type this.
Most of these were all destroyed by one fire, the others were destroyed by fire, tornado, or theft.

I miss the guns, I miss the people that passed these onto me so much more.

*tear plops*

A Remington 12 gauge semi-automatic. It belonged to my great grandfather and my grandfather passed it on to me. It is the only thing I have of theirs, so I will hold onto it as long as I am here and then will pass it on to my children. I wish they were both still around.

All from my Grandfather:

A Colt Revolver originally bought by Great Grandfather.
A 92 Winchester also bought by Great Grandfather.
A Lee Enfield SMLE that Gramps 'borrowed' from a 'Limey' sometime in the 40's.

From Dad
a Marlin 39A
A Colt Commander

My brother got all the good stuff. :(

The only gun I've inherited is my dad's Hi Standard HDM. In fact I've been thinking of having it supressed as an Oss replica .

gary

only a few. a browning sweet 16, and a mossberg 151m 22lr rifle. they were both my dads. my older brother got my grand mothers (grandpa was a truck driver and was never home, so grandma took the kids hunting! from the stories, she was a pretty good shot too!) winchester 94? lever action 32-40. and he said a couple of years back, that he sold all of his guns. to bad he didnt tell me or my brother before he did it.

From my Mom's Dad: Savage 24v O/U 30-30/20ga. He left a Savage bolt action to my brother, but he married an anti and so I got it. And my dad has given me an Ithaca 37 DS Police Special in 12ga.

My Dad has two Japanese rifles his dad picked up in the Pacific Campaign, with bayonets - these are really neat. He also got an early Luger his dad one in a poker match with original issue holster. He has many others, and I will end up with all of em, but I'd really rather he keeps them for a long time to come.
