I would be armed with one of my usual carry pieces.
Main one is the FN Forty-Nine (.40S&W)
Secondary is my .380 Makarov with a spare mag.

My choices are limited. There are only two doors into my house (well, I could open the garage door, but thats loud and the door leading into the house is right next to the front door.)

I would go in the front while crouching and going towards furniture on my right. I can see into the hall and would be approaching light switches. Since I don't carry a flashlight (I think I will now) I'm going to risk turning on a light. This may expose my location, but I WILL see any BG.

As soon as I see the gun in his/her hand, I'm shooting.
I will sit tight in a good hiding spot that gives me a shot at anyone exiting the hallway. Police show up, and I get arrested and charged because some DA wants a higher felony conviction rate. :cuss: ;)

Nobody mentioned the fact that most of us on this board are multiple gun owners and not everybody keeps ALL the guns locked in a safe. I keep at least two "hidden" but not "locked up." You may be confronted with your own guns...just something to consider.

1911 Colt .45 or go back out to the truck and grab my combat shotgun.

Never stay in one place, shoot and move...they will zero in on you muzzle flash...ALWAYS SCAN!

Either my SA 1911 or my S&W 66 with a 2.5 barrel.

Where are all of the Keltec p32 owners...I sold my P32...for just this reason I was afraid that one day I would run into a situation like the one described and knew that the P32 would not handle the job...JMHO

I'd take up a defensive position outside the house and hopefully I'd have some neighbors and friends who own guns(type/caliber isn't important) I could rouse via the cell phone/quick knocking+explaining to offer assistance and as they're on their way over I'd shout into the house to let the intruder(s)/victim(s) know that I and possibly others are there and see where it goes from there. Even if I could get no immediate assistance I would do the same.

Blindly attacking a defensive position, even your own home, versus unknown enemies is foolish.

Buy distance and time, every time. It would absolutely kill me to do this knowing my wife/kids may be in there but smart is smart and you want odds to work in your favor.

OK shotguns are better ofcourse but since you said pistol it would be my para 12.45 and i always carry my surefire light at night so that would be in the equation and if its my house and my family are likely inside To be quite honest i wouldnt sit on the side lines while they could be getting hurt inside im going in and any bg's i see are going down but if i know my fam isnt home none of my family or friends lifes are at stake then ofcourse i would sit and wait Im not trying to be rambo here and risk my life when it is not nessary but my family is worth it to me besides in a hostage situation i know that the police are trained usally with 6-8 hours on the range and ive shot with alot of cops i think i could handel the situation pretty well if i needed to rather than risking the life of a cop who isnt as copentent with his firearm.
