I just found out Detonics closed its doors again. They made 1911s that seemed to get pretty good reviews. I was thinking about buying their Combat Master.

Does anyone know what happened? :uhoh:

Their prices didn't seem out of line to me. In about the same range as Kimber.

Several months back there was a thread on one of the 1911 boards about them. They were supposed to be reopening based in St. Louis or somewhere near there. Not sure if any real info was posted or just theories.

detonics seems like the semi auto version of charter arms....a good concept poorly executed. the detonics pocket 9 was a good example as are the hit or miss charter arms bulldog .44spls.

mostly id say the finger points to managment.

Jerry Ahern ran it into the ground...He's a better writer than a CEO...

Have you read his "Survivalist" series? :uhoh: He played up the Detonics in them Big Time. I mispent a big chunk of my youth following John Thomas Roark's adventures.

How did a Sci Fi writer wind up as the CEO of a firearm company?????
