What happened to Ranier's website?

I can no longer access Ranier's handloading section of their website. They used to post bullets and recommended charges on line. No more. What happened?

Easy fix. Just spell 'em right.

They're called Rainier Bullets, not Ranier, as you posted above.

I just went to their website, and it works fine, although the reloading data must now be retrieved through email or telephone call to an 800 number. Some reloading websites are doing that these days, it's probably a liability thing. Here's the URL:

Yeah, I've got the website. I just spelled it wrong on the title. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not something happened to make them pull the data.

I figure somebody did something that prompted the change.

I'm guilty of running their 158gr .357" plated bullets up over 1600fps in my Desert Eagle, myself. No problems in my gun, but somebody else may be asking for trouble if they cook up some ungodly handload and then say they found it on the Rainier website. Just conjecture on my part.

Yeah, makes you wonder.

Heard a story about why Preparation H says, "For external use only."

Turns out a guy wrote them a letter and said, "Dear Preparation H people. I have hemorrhoids. I bought a tube of your medicine and ate the whole tube. It didn't do anything about the hemorrhoids. But now I sure can whistle!"

Most of their data came directly from the infamous midway loadMAPs anyway, I can't see how they could be responsible for posting someone else's data......

I spoke to them last week. They said they are reformating the layout because too many people were confused about the data. I don't know when they are sending out the data but I've requested once by telephone and twice by email in two weeks and have yet to receive anything.

Wabid Wabbit:

For what it's worth, I just got off the phone with them. They said that lead bullet data is fine to use with Rainier bullets. They also said that if you want to use jacketed bullet data, simply reduce the load by 10%.

Hope this helps.

I E-mailed Rainers yesterday asking for load info.
Here is the reply I received;

Dennis, thank you for your email. We recommend using lead load data when
loading our bullets. Our bullets are jacketed using an electroplating
process and are softer than traditionally jacketed bullets; hence the
recommendation to use lead load data. If you only have traditionally
jacketed load data, please reduce your start load by 10% and try a few
before progressing. I hope this will be of some assistance when loading our
products. Thanks, Phyllis Welker, Customer Service/Sales

Wow! My Desert Eagle started leading up bad with Rainiers after only a few shots, and that was a load chrono'ed at about 1275. Damn near turned it into a single shot, but luckily the slide seized up before the gas port filled up.

I don't run Rainier (or any plated mfg) supersonic. Which is a shame, because otherwise they're pretty good bullets for the price.

One thing I learned quickly about plated bullets...

They don't appreciate an aggressive crimp, particularly a roll crimp. Evidently it bites right through the thin plating and into the soft lead, causing all sorts of solder tracks down the barrel, even in my Desert Eagle's polygonal tube.

I spent the extra money and bought a Redding taper crimp die, it seems to hold the bullet nicely against recoil without tearing into it too badly.

Last night, I ran across some loads for Rainier bullets using Accurate powers in the Google cache. I was able to find them again today by doing the following:

1. Execute a search for "rainier accurate loads" on Google.
2. At this point, the third result listed is titled "Accurate Arms" but the link itself is dead. If you click on the "Cached" link on the last line of the search result, you can get the version from Google's cache, however.

If you want these loads, do it soon as who knows when it will expire from the Google cache. I haven't tried the loads, I just found them, so as always follow standard reloading practices if you get them from the Google cache and want to use them.
