What happened to Vic Vega, if I may ask?

Just curious....

I realized the other day that I hadn't seen any new posts from "Vic Vega" for a while. This struck me as odd, since the guy seemed to post about once every 5 minutes for the first couple of weeks he was around. I thought I might have been missing his posts, or possibly he was just on vacation.

So I did a search for his posts and found none. Huh? Then I went to the membership area and saw that he has zero posts attributed to him. Another huh? I know this is wrong since he started on of the most wildly successful threads I've ever seen on a board--the "Break the Ice" thread. So I searched for that thread too and, lo and behold, it seems to be gone.

I'm confused.

I guess that because I don't know what happened to Vega, I fear that I might commit some unknown (to me) faux pas and get "erased" too. I also wondered if it could be possible that this board might be practicing some kind of exclusionary tactic that I've heard about on boards like DU. I really doubt that, and don't even like to think it's possible--I have too much respect for The High Road members and moderators--even if I disagree with something they post--to believe this place is anything other than THE high road in spirit and action.

I'm sure there are legitimate reasons for cleaning some one off of a forum. Like they're a troll, a criminal, or causing trouble. But I don't understand removing the threads that seemed legitimate and were definitely interesting and informative.

The whole thing just doesn't seem very, well, High-Road-ish. From where I stand--which is completely uninformed--this seems like exactly the kind of thing we gun owners fear the government will do to us. (Feeble attempt at making this post gun related.)

If, in fact, the board mods/owner decided Vic had to go, I'd be interested in the how and why. Before any one says it: Yes, I know it's probably none of my business and this is a private board and the owner(s) (Mr. Volk?) can do whatever they deem fit. I'd just like to think we could have an above-board discussion about this event. Even if it is really a non-event, in which case the explanation would probably be really simple.

In All Sincerity,

Peter

(Now I'm worried that I'm going to get "disappeared" for asking the wrong questions. Man, paranoia is not good for your Acid Reflux Syndrome!!:uhoh:)

A quick read of the rules of conduct for the board will let you know what is a bannable offense.

Quick 'n' dirty version:
So long as you don't post under multiple user names, post content that is obviously derogatory, inflammatory, or outright offensive you'll be fine.

Basically, don't be a troll and you'll have nothing to worry about.

As for what, exactly, got a particular member banned, that's really something that is between the offending person and the moderators. It's bad form to publically air dirty laundry, even if it is just the internet.

As this is OT (no gun related content) I'm going to go ahead and close the thread down. If you have any more specific questions about the code of conduct or how the website is run, please don't hesitate to send a private message or email to one of the moderators.

I saw a couple of posts by the person in question that were kind of inappropriate, most likely they crosssed the line one too many times.

In order to keep a board running smoothly without it deteriorating into an
abortion, dem/repub, 9mm vs .45 fest, the boom needs to be lowered on those who don't want to or can't play nice.

I'm going to reopen this thread for just a second. Justin gave the definitive explanation and I can add nothing to his answer. But I do want to respond to Snake Eyes' statement:
Now I'm worried that I'm going to get "disappeared" for asking the wrong questions.
I want to reassure you that no one will ever get "disappeared" for asking any question of the wrong type or even the really, really, wrong type. The only reason that particular and extreme action is ever taken (and it is extremely rare) is when someone not only pushes the envelope, they tear it asunder, mutilate it beyond all recognition and then throw the shreds back in our face. So there is no reason for any member to be paranoid about that ever happening to them.
