Punisher - I just bought a Marlin .22 Mag from Curt Smith's here in town a couple of months ago. I have 2 .22 LR rifles and the Ruger Convertible revolver and have been looking for a .22 Mag rifle to go with them for several years. Mounted a 3 x 9 - 40 Burris scope on the Mag too. Tax and bore sighting took it to about $445.

Personally, I like the .22 mag, as I can shoot it in both my Savage 24 and my Ruger Single Six. The .17 is by all reports a fine cartridge, but I'm quite content with the .22WMR.

These post about a .22 mag VS .17 HMR come up all the time. I have both and have shot the .22 mag for over 30 years. I have a CZ 452 in .17 HMR that I have hunted with for 3 years. Guys, there is no comparison between the two. The .17 will kill anything the .22 mag will, and at longer range. It is a much more accurate gun, I find it amazing. I like the .22 mag but sorry, it simply does not compare................

If you want to stick with rimfire and take a nice step up from 22 LR, 17HMR is the way to go. The 17 HMR is amazingly accurate out to about 150 yards. Best accuracy is at about 100 yds. I have a 22 mag and I'm shootinito use up the ammo I have and then it's going down the road.

JT I can't believe they charged you to boresight it. I was just up there getting a 10/22 for my wife. It is now "pinked" out. Hey its what she wanted. The price on the 10/22 was right on so I guess the base rifle you picked up was well priced. I just don't like to deal with some of the guys up there. Namely Doug; and he moved in right across the street from me.(sorry if your on THR, just not good at customer service.) Just please tell me you do not shop at or use the range at Belleville Shooting Range (cop shop). Those are the worst group of business owners/workers I have ever met......EVER!

Here is another one I saw at Wally world today for $217.00. I really like it too. Its a .22Mag though. I'm really leaning that way now cause I don't know if I want to add another bullet type to the collection.

Cop Shop

Punisher - $15 for the boresighting. And I've only used the Cop Shop's range one time, when I was shooting those 80-90 year old handguns of my grandfather's. I did buy a little red-dot sight there for the .22 my Mom uses to pop turtles and muskrats on her lake, but nothing else. I haven't particularly liked their attitudes either (or their prices!).

One reason I went with the 983 instead of the 982 on that .22 Mag was I didn't want the interference of a clip protruding from thte bottom. As I plan on using this for some hunting, I wanted something I could lay on a fence rail/post or a rock.

221 Fireball or 222 Swift also come to mind, but I like my Ruger 77/22 Mk II in .22 WMR. I can hit anything I want with it.
