What I want in a Modern Tactical Rifle...

Definately not. Many years ago I used to carry two,a 16" bl full length handguard and that 21" bbl I mentioned.Still have both. The lower, that I no longer have, had a standard stock with a check rest.16" was all purpose standard carry. I can see special purpose units or a member or two carrying an extra upper in a heavy cal. or with a QD system an extra barrel but not regular guys.Securety or escort?

Well anyhow, yeah, for those of us religated to civi life now its nice for something different.Hunting is one aspect.I have been looking at the 450 Bushmaster,458 socom and 50 baeowolf for the 415. For this 308(7.62x51) I have been looking at 338-08(now 338 Federal, way cool to me loved the wildcat) and 358 Win. Maybe even a 40-08 or 416-08. But those are diferent stories and I don't want to wander too far off the OP.

Maybe on the SF units. I dunno.

I personally like the .458 socom, it is not limited to the low bullet selection of the .450, and has slightly better ballistics and is more versitle than the .50 Boewulf. I like the .338 fed too, wish i could afford one even in a bolt.... I think the .416 is a better choice than the .40-08.... But that is off topic....

Can't...resist...must ask...AH! Ok I have started looking into the 458 socom and 50 beowolf and have noticed many inconsistancies...They both have basicaly the same case diameter but the 458 is said to fit more in a mag:confused:. The 50 has more case volume but the 458 is said to have more velocity with the same weight projectile:confused:. Bullistic coeffeceint/drag? Still with more case capacity of the 50..?

So to stay more with the OP,having a "Heavy Caliber",I think,is not a bad idea. For reliability I would lean toward the 458 SOCOM because of the overall cartridge shape. Better feeding and extraction much like 7.62x39.Then there is always the bullet selection, again pointing to the 458.

I think the .458 runs higher pressure than the .50, i will check that up. they both use a modified .50AE case, rebated rims on both. The .50 uses the PPC base, while the .458 uses the .308 rim. I think that the .458 has a slightly longer case, but it could be the other way around. I to am confused by the mag capacity, that seems loke something to do with the mag...

Does anyone know if the POF bolt carriers are the same for 5.56 and 308?

Also, does anyone know if POF bolt carriers will work -fit and move freely- in RRA LAR-8 or Bushmaster BAR-10 ?

Will RRA or Bushmaster bolts work in POF carriers? (308s)

Thank you for the info to those that reply.

No, they are different.

On the '15 sized rifles, POF made sure that regualr BCGs couldn't fit, so i doubt that the P308 is any different. Don't know about the bolts, they do use standard AR bolts in the P-415.....
