I am thinking about selling this gun but i have no idea what a fair asking price is.
What do you think?

Its a Ruger GP100 357 Magnum with a 6 inch barrel. The gun is in very good shape. The only blemish is a little oxidation on the under side of the trigger guard. The gun is about 6 years old and has not been used that much at all. Thanks for your help.

One thing's for sure. You put it up for sale for $350 and it won't be up for sale long. You could get $450 no problem. More if you were patient.
I had that revolver with a 4 inch barrel and traded it. I've regretted it ever since.

I would try selling it for $400. I don't think the blue GPs bring as much as the SS ones. You may have to accept $350-$375 to close a deal.

If you are not in a rush - it wouldn't hurt to try selling at $450, the worse thing that can happen is that you have to reduce the price...

I wouldn't pay more than $350 for it. Simple fact that there are "better" revos and there is no collector's value in the GP100.

It is a great sturdy gun that will last a lifetime, but demand will drive price and unfortunately there isn't much demand for a GP100, especially since you can find a lot of police trade in S&W's for $300 that have more history and heritage.

Where are you located? I think that makes all the difference. If you were in CA like I am, I would say $450 easy. It would probably be gone in a week. But for other states, $375-400 seems like a mighty fine offer. Great gun...I hope you don't miss it too much. Oh, btw paid $375 for my 4" bbl on gunbroker.

Before I looked at a single response, and without more than a moment's thought, I said to myself, "I think $350-400." And it seems to be the common response. I'd say that the reality may vary some by locale, patience, financial necessity on the seller's part, etc. but it seems like you should expect to get at least that, and maybe more if you want or are able.

JOsh

gotta go with the $350 as well. you could get more from a slower sale but the guys are right on on this one.

That is my take as well. With the price differential at $400 price tag, I would simply buy a new one. Yes, the rusty spot matters.

Whoever buys it that wants a 6" barrel .357 mag for some close range huntin' or target shooting will love it. It's definitely not a CCW gun.

My GP100 is exactly like that one. It's given me 16 years of service and keeps on tickin'. It does sit in the safe for months and months sometimes, but I always know it's there when I need to call on it.

Wow. I saw that one at Buds. I guess I was thinking of the stainless one. You can even get that one for $515 delivered though. Wasn't as high as I thought. Sorry dude.

If it were me, I'd put it on consignment at $399 with a low of $350. Go over $400, and you're in 686 territory. Most folks I know will buy the L-frame over the GP at a similar price.

f it were a 4in you could easily get 400, but it is a 6in which is not worth as much to MOST gp100 buyers. Soooo, at $350.00 it'll sell, at 400 firm you would be waiting a long time to sell it. I love the 6in and 4in and want another of both. But I would only pay $350.00 for a 6in blue one.

I would say $350-$375 tops. Yes, the rust matters. If I had the choice between a used one with rust for $375 and a brand new one for a hundred bucks more, I'm taking the new one.

I find it interesting that some would say that "there isn't much demand for a GP100" when Ruger sells every one they make and everybody and their brother has one. Except me. It's probably one of their biggest selling handguns of all time.

Craig, who said there isn't much demand for a GP100? I said there isn't AS much demand for a 6in GP100 as there is for a 4in which is TRUE. One might look for a used GP100 here in NM for a year and not find one but find 10 6inchers for sale easily. Might be a local thing but here the 6in is not as sought after at all.

As far as the surface rust on the triggerguard goes, take some #0000 steel wool, oil the rust and lightly rub. Depending how deep it is, it should come off leaving no trace it was ever there.

I see them in stores here, factory new, going for $449-$469. I would say the $300-$350 range is appropriate for that gun here in central VA.

Location,Location,Location

In my neck of the woods thereis scarcity of Ruger revolvers It`d bring 400 .

The BP shop in Mytrle Beach had no Ruger revolvers at all the last time I was there!

What ya gonna put back in it`s place???

You`ll miss it !

You`ll wish ya had it back!!

NJ is a problem - you need individual permits for each revolver you purchase. It makes a lot of people choose to buy new guns. I think $350 is the most you will get in-state, and I doubt anyone would pay more than that shipped.
