Congratulations, I hope it works out well for you.
I only recently bought a Hi-Point Carbine so please double check everything I say but hopefully I can provide you with some good information.
Hi-Point is famous for having the warranty travel with the gun, not just the original owner. If you run into problems caused by less than perfect care you could well be in luck. There are lots of stories on the net about people returning them to the factory and get an essentially rebuilt gun with a couple of spare magazines thrown in for their trouble. Internet stories are always suspect but the company does have a good reputation for helping their customers.
The carbine is also suppossed to take a lot of abuse and keep on functioning. Blast the action with Brake Cleaner or Gun Scrubber, run a few patches down the bore, a little bit of lube where it counts, and you're good as new. Again this is second hand internet rumor but plenty of people are saying they have one for a truck gun or other low maintenance, high abuse situations and they keep going bang.
I hope your experience is a good one. Ugly is Beautiful!
