Okay, what is it about 1911s?

I have years of experience with Berretta and Taurus 9s. All shot well and performed with nary a hitch. But I finally broke down about bought a Springfield Stainless mil spec.

Now I have this insane urge to go out and buy another 1911 pattern.

What's wrong with me? Will this urge go away? Will it subside? Or will I find my shooting bench covered in 1911s and parts I've swapped off guns for an upgrade? HELP!!!

There is just something about a 1911. There are folks who have never owned one or have no desire to own one, but most of us are just enamored with the dang thigs.

I get all weak kneed when I see a big glossy picture of an Ed Brown Executive Elite or a Les Baer. I always tell my wife "First thing I am ordering if I win the lottery is....."

Could it have anything to do with the fact that we have all grown up seeing this gun? Our fathers or grandfathers all had them. They've been in everry movie we've ever seen. They're almost as symbolic of America as a bald eagle so why wouldn't you want one? While you ponder that, I need to go copyright the image of a bald eagle holding a 1911... Oh, yeah... Isn't that Kimber's whole marketing campaign for the Raptor?

Great ergonomics, reliability, and accuracy. On top of that, add a layer of legend and simple good looks. I just love 1911's.

Ya see, if there was a bandwagon to jump, most would think it'd be the 1911 bandwagon. But people don't buy 1911s just to buy them, there's a certain aura about them

Firstly, the way that steel has a presence. Its got soul. Its a tool, yes, but each 1911 you buy is different. Each polymer pistol you buy is... well... just another polymer pistol. But these 1911's are individualistic.

The 1911 platform is a proven design. Except most companies try to tinker with them and end up buggering them up. There are soo many things you can do to a 1911. They have style. There are different styles. Its like dressing up a super model. They're beautiful to look at naked, but dressing them up in their own way is nice and different too.

Ya want a milspec 1911? Sure... bam! here you go! You want a super custom 1911? sure $5000 later and bam! Super custom 1911. You want a race gun? Sure, bam! Heres your race gun. In the end, the 1911 world fills so many niches its amazing.

You want them blued? Sure. Hardchromed? Sure. Two tones? absolutely! REVERSE two toned? OK! Lets see you try and reverse two tone a Glock!

How about all those movies with 1911s in them, you gotta admit theres a feeling of want from watching all those movies. I knew about 1911s early in my life.

You don't stop at one 1911 either. Do you need more than 1 1911? Of course not. But remember, each one of my 1911s are different. Each has a different calling. Each serve their own purpose.

Take a stroll to the recent "Post your .45 ACP pictures" thread in the Handgun general discussion forum. I'm almost gonna bet most of those pictures are of 1911s.

1911s are not a bandwagon, they're not a cult to follow, they're not a fanclub, they're a calling.... a strong force to be reckoned with.

Ya know how they say "I've joined the darkside" when they buy a Glock. When someone buys a 1911 they just post a picture without any text and you'll get 400 replies of oogle and drool smilies. The 1911's aren't a darkside, heck we ain't even on a brightside. We're on our own side.

You either understand 1911s or you dont :)

so why wouldn't you want one

Because after buying and selling four nineteen elevens over the past four to five years and looking back on my purchases (mistakes), I have determined I would have been better off spreading my money across the kitchen floor and pooping on it.

What is it about 1911s?

The 1911, like the M1 Carbine and the M1 Garand have soul.

Some things have soul, a Piper J3 Cub, a 55 Chevy, a old Harley Davidson, a P51 Mustang....................................................

"Snowdog
........... the F4U Corsair................"

You said it brother.
I was in a USMCR F4U squadron when I was 17.:)

I can still smell the exhaust when they cranked that engine.
