I am getting ready to do my first large batch of .223 with a dillon 650. What is the best lube and method for doing a 1000 case batch?

I'm not saying this is the best because I am still fairly new to rifle reloading. Hornady One Shot is the only lube I have used so far and has worked good. I will put about 200 223 cases in a large ziplock bag and squirt a couple of shots in the bag. Close the bag and roll them around in there for a couple of minutes and they are ready to go. I will be following this thread to find an easier or better way to lube myself.

I dislike aerosol case lube, as I do my work indoors in a relatively clean area. I really don't see how the aerosol can be used without filling the air with stuff I would rather not breathe, not to mention the overspray mess on surrounding surfaces.

I use RCBS water-soluble lube that comes in the white squeeze bottle.

I splurt some onto my hands, and just roll the cases betwee my hands. I can do 5 or 6 .223 cases at a time. Be careful not to get TOO MUCH lube on the cases. Too much lube will cause dents in the shoulder.

You do not need to cover every square millemeter of the surface of the case.

I could lube 1000 .223 cases in less than 15 minutes using this method.

Lube washes off your hands quickly in hot water.

I use this. It's a spray that goes a long way and is W.E.G friendly.

I use the same technique that RustyFN uses in a gallon or larger ziplock bag. Just spray the sides of the bag and roll a bunch around. A little goes a long way this way.

Does it dry to a chalky texture that is amenable to easy removal in a tumbler?
No. It remains slightly sticky/tacky to the touch. The lube is in alcohol that evaporates and leaves the lube behind. I use the same bag over & over since it is still usable once the carrier is gone.

It does come off in the tumbler as this is my preferred(easy) method. About an hour in untreated corncob will do.

I used dillons spray lube until I made my own. Follow this link for the correct recipe

http://www.frfrogspad.com/homemade.htm

I used the cheapest cookie sheets wallyworld has to lay out the cases to be sprayed ( took 8 sheets to do 1000 308 cases )

Line the cookie sheets with paper towels. Put a spacer about 3" high under one end of the cookie sheet so all the cases will stay rolled tight to each other. Load the sheet full from one end to the other with as many rows as you can with at least an inch left over, all the case must be facing the same direction.

Cover a large area of floor with newspaper to make clean up easy. Spray the first row allowing a small amount to get in the neck, use a ruler to move that row forward and do the next row, repeat until rows are done.

Now remove 2 cases from the end of the row and rotate all the cases 180 deg. ( just tip the sheet up ) lube that side.

Wait a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate and size

USE LOTS OF VENILATION

This takes longer to type than to do, once you have everything ready.
I have had great success doing production runs of a thousand at a time useing the method

YMMV
