I'm talking about full size pistols that are meant for duty or maybe could be military handguns. Not compacts, not target guns. They should be some form of double action loosely speaking. That means DA/SA, DAO, striker fired ect.

Criteria should be reliabilty, ergonomics, accuracy, ease of shooting, quality, ruggedness, safety.

here are my choices

9mm = Beretta 92 series. Not really the best gun in any single dept except reliabilty but it is good in all depts.

.40S&W = Glock 23. I don't like Glocks and I don't like .40S&W but this is nice package for a .40S&W.

.45acp = SIG 220. Until something better comes along, this is still top dog in my book.

For me:

9mm Glock 17

.40 Don't like, don't have

.45ACP 1911 Auto or 1917/625 revolver

9mm= Glock 19

40S&W= Don't like at al

45acp=Colt 1991A1. If you can't carry the Colt, I actualy like the feel of the S&W 45acp's.

Easy, for me:

9mm - HK USPSD9 (with the Match Trigger group added).

.40 - HK USP40 Tactical.

.45 - HK USP45 Tactical.

My choices would be as follows:

9mm = SIG-SAUER P228
.40 S&W = H&K USP
.45 = SIG-SAUER P220 or H&K USP

9mm: CZ 75B
.40 S&W: CZ 75B
.45 ACP: M1911-A1 I know, it doesn't meet your specs.

1911 platform
...1911 platform
.....1911 platform
They should be some form of double action loosely speaking.
"loosely" they suit...first you thumb swipe the safety, then you pull the trigger...

Ah, no ... SIG, SIG, SIG ... but:
226 (9mm) ... 226 (yep, it's a good one in .40, too) and 220 ...
(if we're talking TDAs ...)

9mm - Glock 17 (I like the revolver-like simplicity)

.40 S&W - USP 40 (supposedly one of the softer shooting "forties")

.45 ACP - 1911 variant (no frills, just reliability work)

I am not a fan of DA/SA since most autoloaders have a horrid DA first shot, and most shooting is done in SA anyway.

9mm-HK USP 9
40 S&W-HK USP 40
45 ACP-HK USP 45

They are not my favorite guns for range or competition/game, but I think they beat every other duty gun in terms of reliability/accuracy/ease of use/recoil control.

choices

I guess I'm out of this, because everthing I own other than a little Hi-Standard revolver, are Browning design. As far as caliber, there is nothing I am interested in between .22 for target shooting, and .45 for serious business.
