What is the best state for gun owners?

I'd say New Hampshire is the best state in the union for guns laws, and getting better all the time.

New Hampshire is better than VT for gun laws. In VT, local towns and municipalities can (and actually have) enact more restrictive gun laws than the state's general laws. In New Hampshire, no town or municipality can make gun laws more restrictive than the state's.

Also, VT bans concealed carry in more places than NH. Only places that is off limits for CC in NH is a court house!

Sage, thank you~~~

You're sure welcome, Catherine!

Heck, I lived in Seattle for around 18 years and there's a bunch more bigotry in general up there than I've seen here. There's bigotry everywhere and even I have experienced religious bigotry a few times in my life, though it's probably negligible compared to what many people face in their daily lives.

On THR, our members from California, New Jersey, Chigago, England, etc. probably get rather tired of seeing all the nastiness aimed at them, even while they probably agree with it.

But, hey, if avoiding white supremacists is an overriding concern, it may be best to first actually locate those supremacists and THEN decide where to live based on that, rather than saying "wow, there's probably a bunch of them dudes in Idaho, better stay away!"

I personally have a far greater fear of MS-13 than any home-grown white supremacist groups. I can tolerate a bit of hate speech or stupidity with the white seperatists and white supremacists but I tend to shy away from the hardcore butchers and killers coming mainly from somewhere south of the border...

In South Carolina it is legal to have a gun in your glove box (loaded), no paper work required.

NH is one of the best. Open carry allowed (no permit required). Shall issue CCW. My CCW license was approved and ready in one day. Also, there aren't very many restrictions on where you can't carry. Courthouses are prohibited, but I think that's about it.

Class III weapons allowed (full auto, SBR, silencers). Everyone says VT is good, but they prohibit silencers. AK looks good too.

Nevada has a good gun climate.....Florida has a three day waiting period on handguns - that part stinks....Idaho, Alaska, Texas Arizona, New Mexico.....starting to see a pattern???;)

Well no one else mentioned it so I will. Alabama has pretty decent gun laws. It is a may issue state but that has never been a problem, stop by the sheriffs office pay my $15 and they print it on the spot. Off limits are public protest, maybe police departments and court houses (I see that a lot but have never found the law) and unfortunately state parks because they get to make their own rules. State preemption keeps counties and cities from screwing thing up. You need a permit to carry in a car. Open carry is legal. One down side is our permit is not as widely recognized as some states but that's what my nonresident Florida permit is for. No ban on full auto or silencers but short barrel rifles and shotguns are out. We have a decent state legislature that has been pushing more and more pro 2A laws every year so at least we are headed in the right direction.

Well,

After growing up in Kentucky and now living in Utah. I say they both deserve to be ranked at the top of the list. Realist gun laws and good people.

I'd say either Texas or Florida. Neither of them allow open carry but they are otherwise nearly perfect. They also have no income tax and Texas at least has affordable real estate.

Depending on how the legislature decides to resolve the budget crisis, Florida could again resume its place at the top spot (lowering government costs and lowering the property tax burden) or it could become the next NJ (high property and income taxes together).

I've given strong thought to taking the bar in another state in case the commies win in the state legislature and decide to punish me for working in Florida. I'm considering either VA or TX as an alternative base of operations.
