I'm looking for a new 9mm in a Sig Sauer, what is the difference between a P228 and P229? What one would you reccomend ? thanks

P228 has a stamped & folded carbon steel slide, with a pinned breech block. Also has full-height slide serrations. The P229 has a milled stainless steel slide with half-height slide serrations. P228 has an internal extractor and the P229 has an external extractor. The P229 is about 1.5oz heavier due to the stainless slide.

While either pistol will serve you well, many folks report that the P228 balances better. I've used a P228 as my carry gun for a number of years now. It shoots well and I've only had one issue with it (broken trigger reset spring -- easy fix).

if your out handling them, make sure that you're not handling a 229 in another calibre (.40 or 357 Sig)...they are not the same gun as the 9mm 229. their slide is heavier/thicker and they use different mags.

the 229 is nothing more than a 228 with the milled slide...the new batch of 228s are just the 228 slide on a 229R frame

I thought the P228 was discontinued some time ago.

well it was never really discontinued, because the M-11 has been in continuous production, but earlier this year they released some "new" 228s. they were the folded slide 228 top end mounted o the 229R frame...i figured they just found some extra slides

The P229 is available in .40 (its first chambering), .357 SIG (the first gun introduced in this caliber) and 9mm.

the .40/357Sig 229 is very different from the 9mm 229. the slides are have a different contour and they take different mags...the 9mm mags are smaller and will rattle when used in a .40/357Sig frame
