I'm looking for a good 22LR revolver for any SHTF situation. It has to be accurate and reliable. Any thoughts?

My 1958 Ruger Single-Six fits into that catagory. Works for me.

+1 on Freedom Arms making some truly beautiful guns. If I ever have a couple grand to blow I WILL have one of their .45LC single action revolvers

I'm guessing it stands for some form of self-defense, given the mocking comments.
Well, a .22 LR still beats a .25 ACP if one wants to look at this in a positive way and a .22 LR still beats no gun at all, but even I know enough that a .22 that can't even manage to penetrate a windshield isn't a self-defense weapon (unless you have a loaded one right there and nothing else).

Freedom makes a nice gun, but I still consider the S&W K-22 (the old model, not the current Model 617) to be the best .22 revolver ever put on the market. The 617 is the best DA currently made. I rate SA revolvers second except when intended purely for plinking, in which case both Ruger and Freedom make nice guns.

I don't know, having a .22 at the end of the world is a good thing, imho. Wabbits, squirrels, snakes, zombies, undead, sentries, etc.
I really likes the S&W 617. I've only had mine for about 96 hours, but have already put 1383 rounds through it. It. Was. Fun.

I agree, a Ruger Single-Six is a good choice. Most of them came with an additional 22WMR cylinder.
If you looking for a light weight bug-out bag type of revolver in 22LR, then a S&W 317. The Colt Cobra was available in 22LR as well.
If a larger double action is your thing, then look around for a Dan Wesson model 22 Pistol Pac. With this one, you have 4 different length barrels to choose from.

I like my ruger sp 101 4" barrel. the sights do seem a little cheap though.

I read somewhere that Navy Seals carry the 22 cal. on occasion.

I would also say the S&W K-22 / Model 17 / Model 18. Most are 6" models, but there are some 4" guns out there (all Model 18s and few later 17s). Either that or a new S&W 617.
I would also agree that a 22 is better than nothing. And the choice of a revolver is wise, given the less reliable ignition nature of rimfire cartridges. I know someone with significant arthritis that results in sharp pain when shooting anything more potent than 22LR, so for that person, 22LR certainly makes the most sense.

The best choices for a bugout bag is the Ruger Mark II/III. It's great for self defense,
plinking and, with target sights, for hunting. The Single-Six also is a superb gun. It's
too slow for good self defense, but very fun to shoot and easy to clean.

A 22 for self defense, probably not a great choice. But I personally don't want to get shot by someone with a 22 revolver. Not going to try to steer this thread off track into the old 22 for self defense topic. There are other needs in a potential crisis. A 22 rifle such as a Marlin 39A would be a better choice in my opinion, but if you want a handgun....
My choice for a revolver for this purpose is: 4" Smith 617, Smith Model 17 or 18, 4" Colt Diamondback, or perhaps a Smith Model 63 if you want something a bit lighter but still with a steel frame.

I've got a new model Ruger single six convertable .22LR/.22 mag. I've also got a Ruger 22/45 .22 LR Bull Barrel. and a S&W Model 317 .22 ultra lite. I like the Ruger single six convertable best. However, if I had to pack one of them very far it would be the S&W. It's damned accurate for a little revolver.
i'm still drooling over that DW M22 pistol pac
my favorite will always be my 4" Colt Daimondback, but the S&W M-17 does come in as a close 2nd. the S&W's SA is nicer, but the DA of the Colt is unmatched

If I were wealthy I'd own a Freedom Arms revolver. For 2k though I can buy several good quality revolvers. The other guns like the Smith 17, K22 are both excellent revolvers. My second choice after Freedom Arms however would be the Dan Wesson. The pistol pack above would be something I'd love to own.

Freedom Arms makes a .22? I remember looking into them and getting their catalog a few years back and thought they made nothing less than .357, with .454 Casulls seeming to be their main product.
