I carry a baby Glock on my ankle quite frequently. I can't imagine going much bigger. It's not annoying, but you know it's there, and you must where wider-leg pants such as khakis or boot-cut jeans. It's about as big as I'd go, but something lighter like a 642 or 340 would be even better. I carry with a DeSantis ankle rig (Apache?) with the calf garter.
While driving out of town, I usually carry a SW 640 in a Galco Ankle Glove.
But, I bought a Fobus ankle holster for a Glock 29, same size as the Glock 30 and was surprised to see that it worked. It did not print like I expected it to.
I don't like the Fobus, but, that was the only one I could find for the G29. I rarely carry it on the ankle however. But, when I do, it's not bad.
As an aside, this reminds me of a mistake a writer made where he had his "hero" in the novel carrying a Sig 226 in an ankle holster.
IMO, a mini-Glock is about the absolute largest practical for ankle carry, and then with pant legs that are wide enough.
I think I would want something smaller. The thought of ankle-carrying (at times) my Kahr PM9 intrigues me. A snubnose revolver, preferably a light weight one, is also well sized for this.
I've actually managed my HK P2000sk in a good ankle holster - it worked quite well to my surprise. One thing I did that might make a difference: I work hiking boots, which helped hold it up.
Which ankle holster is my question rcellis? I am looking for a good one that will fit around my ankle. I had an Alessi but it did not fit. The quality was good though.
I have a friend who is a detective that carries a Glock 30 on his ankle. I guess if you get used to it it would be okay. I did not know he had it until he showed me so it works for him.
I have Galco ankle gloves for both a lightweight snubbie and a baby Glock. They work, though the baby Glock requires a little more effort. I can forget I have the snubbie on, but I never forget the 26 is there. I can't imagine carrying a much bigger gun, but I know there are people who carry a 30 or a 19, which are about the same length and height.
