Ok guys I have often wondered this as to how long a good action if taken care of will last the reason I ask is because I've known of guys going out and buying Remington 700's shoot the snot out of it and then rebarel it and get the action tried to get into long range shooting

The Finns took 1890's Czarist Mosins and rebuilt then and then rebuilt them again. By the 1970's and 80's they were manufacturing dedicated sniper rifles based on Czarist actions, some were pre 1898.

A good action will last virtually forever - several lifetimes at any rate.

The folks who could best comment on such would be the competitive long-range marksmen. As I understand, they use up multiple barrels in the same bolt action. In .308 Win the life of a match-grade barrel is say 5 to 10K rounds.

Properly taken care of,a bolt action such as the M700 will outlast the shooter if he buys it as a boy and shoots the snot out of it until he's an old man.

I shoot several rifles built on Mauser actions. 1 for sure is a 1916 Obendorf , I havnt checked the others but there old.

What is the life expectancy of the average car engine piston after millions of high pressure explosions? I would not think that wearing out a firearms action is a single lifetime worry.

The Blazer rifle comes to mind. I don't know who makes it now. They have switch barrels and a trigger to die for. Thompson Contender fall into this topic too. Some of my rifles are on their third generation of use. I have several pre 1900 rifles that shoot just fine. Any rifle will go bad if you abuse it or don't properly care for it.....chris3

my bighorn action has 11,000 rounds and i just put the 6th barrel on it. i expect it to last at least 50,000 rounds and probably 80,000 but i don't have any real basis for that, just guessing. will be interesting to find out.
