I'm not talking about a specific cartridge, rather a specific diameter projectile. For instance, in rifle cartridges, there are the .30-06/7.62x63, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 7.62x54, and in pistol cartridges, the .380, 9x18 Makarov, 9x19, 9x23, etc., all using the same diameter bullet.

Which of each (centerfire rifle and pistol) has the most cartridges with relatively the same diameter bullet?

Also don't forget by sheer volume all the 22's--22lr, 222 and 224 Remington, 218 bee, 220 Swift etc

9x18 mak and 9x19 do NOT use the same bullet diameter, much like the 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R use a different bullet diameter than 7.62x51.

I would say it's .22, but .22 LR bullets are .223 and .22 WMR and .223, .22-250, etc use a .224.

Technically, many of the calibers you listed are not the exact same diameter bullet. Close, but not the same.

22lr for plinking, target shooting and practice
9x19 for self defense and for military use
and
45 ACP for self defense not involving 9x19

he is talking diameter projectile. so what else do you use a 22lr in other than a 22lr. Now you cant say a 45acp. Unless you say a .452 which is just for 45acp or 45 colt. so i think you guys are missing the point.

Now go back to a .308 bullet projectile

a .308 can be used in a 30-30,30-06,.308, 30 carbine just to name a few. So hands down its the .308 projectile.
