What is the most tactical handgun today?

If I had to choose only one production handgun for being the most tactical out of the box, my vote would go to a plain jane G19 with night sights.
If you're not "tactical" enough with that, I'd wager it's not the gear that's need of improvement.

Disclaimer: I'm not a tactical monkey by any imaginable interpretation. The omniscience of the glorious Nomex/Kevlar sages will likely offer a more comprehensive form of enlightenment

Black Snowman,

You have given me more information to store in the gun trivia portion of my brain. I had no idea that the Desert Eagle was designed for tank crews and as an ex-tanker that's interesting to know. According to my wife my brain is messed up. I will remember the Desert Eagle for tankers forever but I can't remember to pick up the milk on my way home from work.:D

Glad I could share megcatia. It took a bit of research to get the real story. Original rumors were that they had made a Full auto version with a 20 round magazine but that just turned out to be internet refuse. I can find no credible refrence to one ever being made. I did finally find a more credible source for the tanker crew explination but have since lost it.

I can't guarentee it's true but it was refreneced in multiple sources. Not sure how the development of the .41, .44, and .50 versions got started but I'd immagine it was an attempt to comeriallize it and make some money off all the R&D they did initially.

The highest number of Tactical Poser points will be awarded for an HK Mk23 or a USP Match.

Other guns that score highly are bucks-up "Tactical" 1911's of the TRP/Pro/CQB/TRS ilk.

I'm gonna finally get rich!

Negotiations are pending with the Ronco people to produce their version of The Salad Shooter (tm] in flat black plastic, stencilled with TACTICAL in bright ORANGE letters.

Anyone want to help me pay for a booth at the next Soldier of Fortune convention? :D

Seriously - - I almost skipped reading this thread. Glad not I didn't. There are some well-thought-out answers to this eternal question . . . .

:p
Best,

Whatever Skunkabilly is packing these days.

Thanks, I needed the laugh!

Yeah yeah yeah. Thats what I was going for. I was originally thinking this was going to be a fun thread. See what cool black toys you guys could come up with. They yall had to go all serious on me.

I think clilpse meant no harm, and sometimes I think we do take things too seriously.

I drive a sensibile vehicle, I drive it sensibly, but it doesn't diminish my interest in car shows, concept cars, or other frivolity (sp?).

I don't think we compromise the serious side of HG ownership by enjoying some of the less "practical tactical" offerings. The constant "mall ninja" stigma's are getting old. Sure there are those that behave in a manner that is not flattering to our point of view, but the "practical gadgets" are no more responsible than the inanimate objectes our anti-opponents try to make the villain. By the way, as long as they're staying within the law, they have a right to behave in a manner we may not enjoy.

Black gadgets, Blackhawk gear and such, tricked out HG's with lasers on rails...they are the "extreme stuff" within our topic of interest. We all know that it isn't the gear that makes the difference, but it doesn't mean we have to flush out the baby with the bath water.

"Tacticool" can be fun, if you have a sense of humor and know the difference between something that looks good, and something that works good...and sometimes, I think you CAN end up with both.

The chest pounding and "anti-smiley's" are signs too often of narrow minds and those that seek to impose their values on others.

Bottom line, as long is it's safe and legal, it doesn't always have to come down to serious business. Remember the days when we were young, the wider the tires, the bigger the engine, revving it at stop lights...sure, that isn't practical, but it was an expression of interest in something we enjoy. Given the choice between 20-somethings going "Tacticool" or marching with the anti's, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt to get through the "Tacticool" stage.

Don't give up clipse, don't let others define you or that which interests you. Stay safe and legal, and have fun...but don't ignore the wise counsel either...most often you'll find that wisdom is acquired over time...take advantage where you can.

Stay safe,

I deffinately meant no harm and originally this post wasn't a serious post. I just thought it would be something fun. My P-01 is tactical only because it is what I shoot the best, is completely reliable, and very concealable. Although, thinking about shooting an HK USP expert is fun. I would never actually own one because I have no need for it. Sorry if I offended anyone. FWIW, I am 22 and still aquiring wisdom. :D

Did "Tacticool" stuff attract you to firearms?

Given the onslaught of negative attention given to firearms, is "the Tacticool mystique" part of what intrigued you? Was it more a tradition passed down from your family?

I'm just curious, because we get fed this line that all our young people are "baggy-pants" smelly radical vegans who hate guns and are trying to resurrect the "flower child" era.

It's evident from this board that many young people are carrying on the tradition...curious what drew you in?

If Airsoft and Paintball and "Tacticool" articles in magazines are the way some kids are finding their way to our tradition, perhaps in spite of their "inner circle's" views...that's probably worth knowing.

Stay safe,

Tactical can be subjective.

IMHO the most tactical handgun is the one in your hand, that is if you can use it proficiently.

No, my father-in-law did. Growing up my mom didn't allow evil guns in the house. All guns were evil so no guns allowed in the house at all. When I met my wife's dad for the first time all I noticed was the assault rifles and handguns he was cleaning. He said,"You'll have her home by midnight." I was sweating bullets.

about a year later he took me out shooting for the first time. I really enjoyed. I shot an old 8mm mauser and had a 3 inch 5 shot group at 50 yards. He was amazed. So was I. He then bought me a nylon 66, Yugo SKS, and my own 8mm mauser. :D My first handgun was the P-01. And now I am a gun nut. The main thing that drew me in was the fun of hitting a target. Tactical stuff never really intrigued me alot but it did a little. I don't wear pants that don't fit and I don't have a multicolored mohawk. I do have a wife, a house, and the ambition to make my grandfather proud of me. My grandfather was the closest thing I had to a real dad. He died a few years ago. I still remember him telling me about different battles he fought in WWII. Including the Battle of the Bulge. I remember hearing the words '.45 automatic' many times. It never ment awhole lot to me then but it does now.

See, now ya got me ramblin. :D

I hate hippies. They stink. And I love meat, especially a well prepared steak.

2 m4's with grenade launchers, red dots, ir flashlights etc.

To make em tactical handguns just put one in each hand and do your best Chow Yun Fat impression.

That's my plan :D!

The wife says, "you should show 'em your collection and say, 'Sunny or Shady'?" ;).

See, now ya got me ramblin.

That was the idea...:).

Glad you are part of the community of responsible gun owners. I keep thinking I "need" a P-01 as a little brother to my CZ-75's...so many guns, so little time.

Thanks for the mini-bio...I came to firearms ownership as an adult "without encouragement" during my youth...always curious how others got here.

Stay safe,

P.S. Dress how you want...eat how you want...I was just making mention of how "the norms" keep changing...I guess these days, the gun-owning 20-something is really the one expressing their "individuality"...
