I found this baby while cleaning my safe today. I have had it 15 years but I have never really been a 1911 guy. Im not looking to sell but would like to know what its worth. Its really hard to tell on Gunbroker because of the reserves and bidding and stuff. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Its a Colt 45, IV series 70. The only thing I have replaced on it is the slide release and I have probably run 500 trouble free rounds through it. I think the guy I got it from did a ramp and trigger job on it.

Not sure what it's worth, but being as it's a Colt, you better keep it. I'd say worth $550 at least. But anyone wanting to buy it would tell you it's worth less

Lets see, the hammer has been changed, it would have had a spur hammer originally, the trigger has been changed to a three hole aluminum model, the original would have been a steel one. I cant say for sure but it looks like the gun has been refinnished in bright nickle, the original finish would have been blue, or colt guard nickle which has a gold cast to it and would have been a matt finish.

The original barrel would say Colt MKIV .45 acp on the chamber area.

Its a shooter and worth $5-600.

Buenhec, are the grips plastic with the Colt logo? Your pic's on the enlargement feature are not focusing on my computer...It's my PC or you need to reduce your resolutions for forum pics to a lower setting.
Anyway, I like your pistol and agree with the figures mentioned.:)
I assume you are not shooting it much...If you want a nice pair of custom grips for it, let me know...

Replaced hammer, trigger, slide stop, looks like a different grip safety.
Colt did some bright nickel Mk IV S70s and this one has a good deal of holster wear with the copper strike showing through on the left side before and behind the trigger guard. Take Ala Dan's $750 and run.

The latest version of GTG lists it between $400 (good) and $870(NiB). Take with the appropriate amount of salt. FWIW I don't think I'd go over $550 on it.

The series 70 colts as well as colts of that era were problematic. They were the only game in town. If you bought a colt the first thing you did was find a good 1911 smith and have him throat it, trigger work, tune extractor, ditch the bushing for a solid one, and some decent sights. Nowdays, just about every 1911 made comes throated, decent trigger, tuned extractor, etc. I bought my brother a nickle series 70 which had all kinds of issues. Competition has done a lot to improve quality control, but like I said, back when colt was the only game in town you had to play by their rules or just get a browning h/p.

I agree on the 550 don't know what been done inside since trigger and hammer be changed out. If was all orginal I go 750 maybe a little more.
Can tell about finish pictures to fuzzy.

It looks to me that he has the same grips on his that I got with mine, they are pachmayr rubber wraparounds with the Colt logo, original equipment on that gun 1975-1979. I replaced mine with nice wood ones, and still have that grip on my shelf in my original parts box, along with the Collet bushing that I replaced with an ed brown solid one.
