Yes, its another "favorite" thread. :what:
What is your favorite "kit gun" (that is, gun for your outdoors kit, not gun you assembled yourself from a kit)?
Revolvers are generally preferred over semi-autos, rimfires are over centerfires, stainless over blued. But none of these are requirements, just observations.
Right now I have no true favorite, although I have enjoyed my stainless Taurus 94 in 22lr with a 4" barrel. Decently accurate, great trigger (thanks to a gunsmith) and stout enough for hyper-velocity loads.
So, what is YOUR favorite kit gun?

Thanks,

David

I have an S&W "Kit Gun" which I've had for years but I put a Small Tasco Dot on it so that kind of Knocks it out of the pocket mode. Last year I bought a Walther (S&W) P-22 with the 3.5" bbl and I throw that in my pocket when the dog and I go walking in the morning. It's a little lighter than the S&W and inexpensive so I don't care much if it gets scratched up or wet etc. and fairly accurate to boot. As far as fit & finish the P-22 leaves much to be desired (no match for the original S&W version) but I think it makes a great "Kit Gun". Nick

I don't backpack or camp but my favorite "outside handgun" is the J frame 2 inch 38 Special S&W with a Crimson Trace laser grip.
I stick it in my pocket walking around the place, especially at night.

The first round is a hand loaded shot round that I've used to kill untold numbers of Rattlesnakes and Copperheads over the years.

Just as a matter of interest, the reason I like the CT laser on this type gun.
My immediate "home" area includes fair size yards, two shops and a barn.
The chances are if I ever had to shoot a two legged critter at night as I'm walking around, I'll be armed with this little 38 and the shot could be 40 or 50 yards. So it's worth the cost to equip the gun with the CT laser.

As it was getting near dark last night I wanted to check out a different load in the Smith.
This is what the little gun will do, standing, two hands, 25 yards, single action, 10 rounds.
Fact is, I can't hardly shoot about a 3 inch, off hand, 25 yard group during the day using the iron sights.
If you carry your "kit gun" a lot in low light or the dark, think about it.
Oh, a couple weeks ago at night, I shot a snake in the back yard, using the laser when all I could see is about where he was.

Colt Magnum Carry w/158 gr Hyrdashocks. Small and light enough for backpacking/fishing... enough bite to be serious at close range.

Single Action: Either a Ruger Single Six or a Uberti SAA in .45LC.
