Back in the day I was shooting a 10mm, I used AA#7 and duplicated factory Norma ammo (HOT!) with a 200gr XTP. Killed a couple of deer with it. I can't tell the difference between it and a .30/30 rifle at under 75yds.
I don't load for the 10mm any more, and when I load for the .40S&W it's with either WSF or LongShot.
I used HS7 but preferred AA#7 which was hard to find back in the day. Less pressure sensitive, higher velocities.
For lead SWC's, I used a LOT of Trap100(same as Win#452), but it too, has been discontinued.
For accuracy I'd try LongShot or WSF. For speed, AA#7 or AA#9.
IMO; there isn't enough difference between the .40 and 10mm to justify the extra expense of the 10mm. I don't even pick up .40 brass as I already have a lifetime supply of it. I lost a LOT of 10mm brass due to my 1006 throwing it into the next county... But, I was running a 200gr XTP to 1,200fps.... a 180gr at 1,000fps does essentially the same thing, so why the extra expense and effort....
I've killed deer with both and don't see enough difference to justify fooling with the 10mm anymore. The ~50fps difference doesn't mean anything to me.
A 155gr XTP from the .40 at ~1,200fps will drop a deer with aplomb. at ~1,300 from the 10mm, it does exactly the same thing.....
