Weapon Shield?

When time came to get some gun oil / lube, I did as much research as I could and ended up with Weapon Shield (not that one can continually chase the "flavor of the month") - did a group buy for some friends to split shipping costs - everyone seems pleased with it.

A new, local gun shop opened around a year ago - I left him a bottle of my Militec-1 and Weapon Shield to try since he cleans so many guns - he seemed to prefer the Militec-1.

From what I understand, the creator of the highly rated FP-10 was paid to leave the company after his company was taken over, and he objected to the typical "cost saving" measures that seem to be the norm for such situations these days. He signed a non-competitive clause and used those 2 years to create Weapon Shield, which he says is better than his old FP-10 formulation.

I was going to add Fire clean but they claim to clean and lub and remove carbon. They dont make any corrosion inhibiting claims and that is the primary reason for my comparison.

Wow! This looks to be a fantastic test. Did you include any waxes, like Renaissance Wax?

I still have some bottles of the original Break Free (not CLP) that I use, but as those are winding down I am switching over entirely to three products:

1 Johnson's Paste Wax for long term storage and weatherproofing hunting guns.

2 Grease for auto pistol slide rails (Militec, TetraGun, Lubriplate, RIG, etc)

3 Red lube for everything else*

For cleaning I use a somewhat random assortment of bottles I've bought over the years, but I'm convinced that all I really need are Hoppe's, Shooter's Choice and Sweet's 7.62.

* Red lube = 50% ATF + 25% STP + 25% Mobil 1
Love the Red Lube! It does everything.

Even mixed my own "Gold Grease" 1 part NAPA copper anti-seize grease, 3 parts PEAK red synthetic grease. I use a toothpick (its thin) to apply, very sparingly a little goes along way.

Red lube= $.24/oz.

FP-10 $2.00/oz yikes!

Gold grease= $.36/oz.

Why waste money on big brand names?

I use Hoppes products to clean
Breakfree Sportsman to lube
Barricade to stop rust or for storage--I have had gun & rifles coated with Barricase in my safe for 3 years--no rust
