What is your Truck/ Car Pistol setup? Pics? Questions...

For some time now I have really wanted to get a truck pistol set up, but I have had a hard time finding the right holster to mount in my truck. Originally I wanted to find a kydex holster, but I cant seem to find one that is mountable.

In the following link this holster is mounted in the "below the dashboard " set up, I would prefer to to have it to the right of my knee, near the center console. Does anyone have any experiance with these holsters?

Does anyone have any pictures of their truck pistol set up? Any suggestions are welcome.


On a side note, before a flame war begins, please note that the gun will be in a lock box when the truck is not occupied.
 
So every time you get out of your truck you are going to lock it up, and every time you get in you have to unlock it and put it in the holster. Seems like a lot of work to me. I would just get a carry permit and call it a day.
 
a empty holster mounted in plain sight in an unoccupied vehicle..........might it happen that some miscreants , seeing that , decide 'driver has gun' and wait for you to make a FTF transfer?

I mounted a retention holster using screws and washer to the underside
of my dash. You have to look at diferent holster set ups to determin how your going to mount it.
one thing Ilike about it is when you go into a bank or other no carry place I can easily remove my ccw
and put it in the holster under the dash. Im allways getting comments on it. My father likes it so much he wants a 1911 so he can do the same thing to his truck.


Right know Im looking into a posible AR 15 mount for the roof, no room on the floor like cop cars.

Wow, you can't carry in a bank in Montana?

Check that, I went to their website, You can not carry in a bank in MT...

That's the one place you might end up needing a gun the most...
 
I figure Why Screw Around ?...ine is a J Frame in a Don Hume pocket holster. No, I don't have to lock my truck........Essex

Try getting a IWB holstered pistol into action quickly while seated wearing your seatbelt. It ain't easy, especially with bucket seats.
 
I have kept a gun in every vehicle I've owned for the past fifty years. There are several reasons for it.

First, my wife has a CCW, but she doesn't chose to carry. Yet she wants a gun near to hand, especially while she is driving, and most especially when she pulls into the driveway at night and in that case she will bring the gun in with her.

If I'm going on a short errand, I'm not going to bother putting on a holster. No need. A weapon is in the truck and/or car. I keep a weapon (and a good small flashlight) in all of my vehicles.

If I am going to any location where CCW is prohibited, I don't carry, but there is a weapon in the vehicle.

I'm not much concerned about any of my vehicles being stolen. I'm even less concerned that someone might break into my vehicle. My location and lifestyle make both possibilities very remote.

If you use a little imagination a good hiding place can always be found. The gun should not be visible even on close inspection of the interior of the vehicle, and it should be instantly accessible to the strong hand without looking.

A holster isn't always the best solution. For example on one vehicle I used an old cleaning rod. I cut it to the size I needed, flattened a portion of it and used JB Weld to attach it to another piece of metal in which I drilled mounting holes and mounted it to the transmission hump between the seats. I screwed a wire brush into the other end of the rod and shoved the pistol muzzle down on the brush. It keeps the gun as steady as a rock, and the gun is not visible. I have only to slip my hand down the side of the seat and the butt is right where it should be. On my old truck I have an old police holster mounted to the back of the top of the seat frame. Nothing is visible from inside or outside. Even if you search the truck, you aren't likely to find it. All I have to do is reach with my right arm slightly behind the passenger seat and my hand lands on the butt. In my newer truck which has a back seat and a bucket for the driver but a bench under the console and for the passenger, I mounted an old holster to a thin sheet of plexiglass and inserted between the driver's seat and the bench seat. Works like a charm. Completely hidden. Instantly available.
 
I've been toying with it, but i'd either have to screw into thin plastic or glue a holster in. When driving, I place my pistol in the center console, pointed down so i open the hatch and its sitting perfectly...most of the time. I'd love to stick a holster to the front wall of the box.

AHAAA! VELCRO! i'll stick velcro in the box and on the holster. I might have to go get another holster! Thanks for the inspiration guys!
 
Been carrying the 'slimhawg' .45 both on me and in a center column of the pickup...make a decent hidden compartment in the 'well' and a placed bianchi holster for a quick grab if needs be...wouldnt drive without it...go anywhere without it.
 
I've had 24/7 vehicle guns for many years.
Excuses for not having a car gun wouldn't mean much if I needed the gun and it was home in the safe, so I'm not without at least one handgun and rifle in each vehicle.

My idea of a car gun is to use something more powerful/larger than the average carry gun.
I keep a Ruger .357 Security Six and usually a second handgun in each vehicle.

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought it was illegal to carry a gun in a motor vehicle unless it was unloaded and in a case that is not accessible to the driver. Does having a CCW permit you to carry a loaded gun in your car?

The legalities of having a gun in a vehicle vary hugely from state to state, and sometimes from city to city.

The "Safe Passage" provision of the Federal Firearm Owner's Protection Act says that you are allowed to transport an unloaded, locked, and inaccessible gun in your vehicle, regardless of local restrictions, as long as the gun is legal at your point of origin and your destination.
 
It depends on which state you're in. In the great state of Missouri ANYONE may carry in ANY MANNER while they are in their vehicle as long as they are over 21. No permit needed for a .357 on the dash or in your pocket.

I have a cheap Uncle Mike's ambidextrous (velcro on both sides) small frame nylon holster held in place between my passenger seat and console with corresponding adhesive velcro. Since I carry a Sprinfield Armory 1911, the small frame holster holds the front of the pistol tightly to keep it in place, yet holds the grip slightly above the plane of the console for easy access in an emergency. Having it on my strong side without having to lean forward or change body position to get it is a big plus in my book.

That's the Federal law supposedly covering you if you travel from state to state, not that it actually worked out that way since at least New York and New Jersey have ignored it more than once.

As for the state level it's different everywhere.

Here in Texas for example there are practically no laws regarding long guns at all as far as carrying them.

I carried a loaded Mini 14 slung across my shoulder on a street legal dirt bike for years during college, never had a problem.

Handgun wise it varies state to state as well.
 
After reading this I'm very tempted to move from Iowa to Missouri. I probably would if the pheasant hunting there was as good as here.
 
Fobus, bladetech, just about any kydek holser is mountable if you have any fabrication skills.

Here is my G19 w/M3 in a bladetech holster mounted to where my ashtray used to be in my caprice.

Here is my setup. Not only does it secure a handgun when need be, but it also secures my electronics.

This has stopped two theft attempts already (combined with a keyless alarm system)

Made by R&D Enterprises in California. There website implies they don't make safes anymore but "lockboxes are coming soon." (handgunsafe.com), but they still have a working toll free number 1.800.467.4000 I hope they are still in business, the quality of the console caddy is crazy and they included very heavy duty mounting bolts/washers and good instructions.
