What It Would Take for Us to Trust Obama

Okay, so me, like many other folks here read the article a while back where Obama told gun owners there was no need to stock up on guns and ammo and that we could "trust him."

I of course, looking at Obama's past voting record, and his pre-presidential statements called bs on the statement and more or less decided to stock up even more ammo.

My question is this? What would it take to believe Obama? If he is "no threat" to gun owners, and wants only "common sense gun laws" what could he do to prove it?

To me, it's simple. Repeal something stupid.

Repeal the '89 Assault Weapon Import Ban which if I'm not mistaken was actually an Executive Order.

Or, the ban on Chinese ammo and rifles/pistols

Sign a commitment to not vote for any further gun controls.

or some such.

Now, the real question though, is how can we pass the message?

Well lets start with what he PROMISED: Rebates, tax cuts, 2,500,000 new jobs, better schools, roads, bridges, World Peace, no more pollution, cheaper energy. When THAT is done, I will trust him.

As an Obama supporter, I don't think you'll get much in the vein of "reassurance".

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Fresh in everyone's mind is how much "political capital" slick Willy had to burn in his first year in office over the gays in the millitary thing. There are so many real issues to deal with right now (economy, energy, war, health care, education, economy), that I don't think Obama will really address "lesser" issues in his first term. Gun control really isn't on the radar screen of the main-stream liberals; just the Brady fanatics and the like. If he has two conversations in the next four years about gun control I'd be surprised.

So no, I don't think we'll get much reassurance, but I don't think we'll see any action to extend gun control either.

That's my hope right now. But I'm waiting to see like everyone else.

I could trust Barry (regarding RKBA) if...

Granted, BHO isn't going after our guns on day one, two, or three. He may wait for an incident in which he seizes the opportunity or he might not ever propose another AWB at all. We don't know.

There are so many real issues to deal with right now (economy, energy, war, health care, education, economy), that I don't think Obama will really address "lesser" issues in his first term. There are supposedly bigger problems right now that need his attention, so our guns are safe for now. But, what we do know is that there are probably several senators and congressmen and/or women whose top priority is in fact to take our guns away as soon as they possibly can. If so, they now have a majority of Dems to help passage of another AWB. Say one of these politicians whose job #1 is to send another AWB up for vote gets it done and with the Dem majority, it passes swiftly.

I could trust Obama and I could breath a little easier if...

HE VETOED IT.

Those Brady fanatics that have a seat in either the HOR or Congress will do what they can to put an AWB on his desk. Do you think he'll veto it? Me neither.

Something he will never do. If he stated, in a public forum:

"While I have not had a change of heart in my views on firearm ownership, I do not see a solution to the problem of crime in the United States that is both viable and effective. I do not want to see legislation such as a ban on assault weapons, firearms registration, or taxation of ammunition come across my desk. I want work on economic reform, national security, and other more pressing issues which I can quickly and immediately have a good effect with. To that end, I would not sign any new anti-gun legislation."

Stating it in this way would force the leadership to work on something else, and not even ,et new gun laws come to a vote. But even this would only hold him through one term, not two. I'm not going to trust him to become a born-again gun person. I will be satisfied is circumstances prevent him from doing more damage.

That being said, I think we need to watch Obama's actions more than his words.

Lets see if he starts playing games with executive orders.

Right now he appears in the public eye to be running to the center.

If Obama appears to be connected and is actually trying bigger cult of personality.

Where we need to put heat is on the Congress, especially on Democratic Congress men=mbers who ran as pro gun.

The Nordyke case is being heard on Jan 15 in California in the 9th circuit of appeals. If the 2nd amendment gets incorporated via the 14th amendment, it will give us potential court relieve.

If a gun bill gets out of the Senate and the house, Obama will sign it.

So the issue is what do we do in the mean time.

Right now the best state IMHO to start establishing 2nd amendment rights through the use of the Courts is California.

Why California.

1. We have alot of stupid laws to challenge.
2. Biggest state in country
3. Large group of gun activists, see calguns.net
4. The cities/counties lack funds for court battles and legal judgements.

Sorry but I cannot conceive of anything Barama is likely to do that wold make me want to trust him. I don't care if he came out tommorow and claimed he had an epiphany and has become a conservative and converted to a conservative, evangelical denomination I would still not trust him.

Sorry. From where I sit the President-elect is the epitomy of the old saw about how you can tell a politician is lieing because his mouth is moving. The man is a thorough going leftist and I for one would not trust him as far as I could shotput a locomotive.

I agree with what has been said above, there are more pressing issues then RKBA right now. On the other had if we are able to pull out of this mess sooner than later I wouldnt doubt that AWB or another variation of it hits his desk as fast as humanly possible.
