I bought 100 of these from Midsouth's blem sale earlier this month. They don't look blemished at all. The marks on the base are because this particular bullet was loaded and then pulled by me. 41.5gr of H414 produced the most accurate group of anything I've ever shot, so I want some more but Midsouth can't say what they are .

.243
95gr
measures 1.112"
appears to have a polymer tip
may be a Hornady SST

Any chance that Hornady puts an off colored tip on their blems for easy identification and no mix up with the non-blems? It does look like an SST.

Could be whys it's a blem? The SST's I have that I load for my daughter seem like the tip comes to a sharper point than the one pictured though.

No.
The plastic tip is inserted and crimped in place while the bullet jacket is being swaged to shape.

There is no way to change the tip once it is swaged in place inside the jacket of the finished bullet.

And there is no way to know it is going to be a blem until after it comes out of the final swaging die.

Remington Accutip.

I read somewhere that Hornady made them for Remington and they were the same bullet as the SST. I read this on another forum, so take it for what it is. I have no idea if it is the truth. It does appear to be the same bullet just looking at it.

I don't think it's a Ballistic Tip,they don't have a cannelure. I would be very surprised if it were a Bronze Point,as they haven't been made for quite some time, and not in 243 caliber that I remember.Hornady makes a flat based SST in 95 grain with a cannelure-#24532. Your bullet looks the same as that bullet in my Hornady manual. The blem is likely in the color of the tip.

It certainly appears to be a Remington Accutip with the colored plastic tip that emulates the old style Bronze point color of years ago.
You have to remember that a "blemished" bullet can have different variations that may be minute differences in ogive location or bullet length, or variations in cannelure height, or just cosmetic differences. Often these differences mean nothing on target, and you just have to test them.
I have shot a lot of blem bullets over the years.

It sure looks like a Hornady SST. I know Nosler used to provide their bullets for Winchester and Federal and would provide them with different color tips than Nosler commonly used for their Ballistic Tips. I have some .270 Ballistic Tips with siliver tips and some .270 Accubonds with red tips. Is it possible that Hornady provides bullets with different colored tips for Remington? If they had a production overrun, I can see why they might have sold them as "seconds" to vendors without claiming they are Hornady (or Remington) bullets. I have purchased Hornady bulk V-Max seconds in .22 caliber that had Blue Tips. Fiocchi factory .223 Remington Ammo features blue tipped V-Max bullets. My best guess for the bullet pictured is that it is a Hornady SST that might have been manufactured for an ammo company and then sold as "seconds".

Looks like an old CIL/IVI Imperial brand Nylon tip to me. Pre-dates all the other synthetic tipped bullets by several years. Colour of the insert was sort of an off white.
