What kind of ammo for my Inland m1 carbine?

Stipulating that cheap/imported steel cased ammo is not too accurate or reliable, does it do any actual damage to an M1 Carbine?

I've never used it and don't plan to, but many say never use it, even for pinking, no one ever really says why. For example, how is a rifle designed for brass cases only and what would they have had to change to make them ok for steel cases as well?

I hope we're not hijacking here. Anyhow....

The first part of the answer about pressure really isn't tied to cartridge case material whether brass or steel, just crummy ammo which is given.

The side x side wear test - did the chamber of the barrel wear out? If it was the bore, the problem may be the steel bullet, and again seems maybe not related to case material.

Aguila is under powered but works OK. Prvi is better but not always available. I reload my own because I like mil spec 2000 fps ammo. Brass and bullets has been a problem to locate lately but I've been building a stock for a few years.

Have a smith check the head space before you shoot it. People swap barrels on these guns all the time and you never really know unless the barrel date matches the receiver date range. I have one that does and one that doesn't. Re-barreled by who, when, was it checked? CMP checks all of their rifles for head space. Also go through your bolt. Replace any springs, parts that are rusted or worn. This is the part that fails most often.

rondog,

thanks for those pictures of the steel cased ammo. I have read of making a chamber insert from those to allow .32ACP to be used in 7.65 French pistols and the SMG in that caliber.

That dark laquer on the primers made me initially think you had some of the steel cased dummy & drill ammo which I had seen.

I have an un opened Spam can of 600 .45 ACP in steel cases around some where. I have heard the .45 ACP is rough on extractors. I doubt however a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Convertible or a 1917 Smith & Wesson would care though so I do keep it incase nothing else is available.

Wonder how his carbine shooting is going?

Thanks Rondog. I notice that the primers on atleast some of that ammo is convex shaped. I have some WCC marked .30 carbine left my father brought back from the Korean War with his M1 that has those primers. Some is also lacquered but not blue, but a red type of lacquer.
