I learned on a Winchester model 290 .22 rifle. I am not sure if my dad had it before I came along, but he taught me to shoot it when I was about 7 or 8. I still have it some 20 years later.

I don't have a pic of it on my computer, but here is a pic of one like it:

Hey Big

Learned on my grandpa's Marlin lever action.22 rifle. He had a little farm out in the tullies. Had a lot of feral cats and dogs to shoot as they came after his pets and chickens.

Had to shoot mostly in the night though. I started as the flashlight holder. :uhoh:

Learned on a.22 single shot Winchester on the family farm. Squirrels, rabbits and the occaisonal groundhog.

Also learned to watch where I step while hunting. Hit a bumble bee nest and was out of comission for a week.

I learned on both Remington and Winchester .22 rifles. I don't remember the model number, that was a long time ago at summer camp. Learned my first revolver shooting with a S&W Model 10 and , my first semi auto on a RG .25 pocket pistol (yeah I know it stands for rotten gun) but that was the first I owned and I taught myself about it. Got real training with Colt Border Patrol for revolvers, and with a Beretta 92SB for semi autos.
Best regards,
Glenn B

Mossberg 500 12ga. Bought It the day I turned 18, shot it the next. Kinda beat me up til I learned how to hold it so it wouldn't get a running start before it smacked me. Shot 50 rounds, some cool bruises, good fun, except I didn't remember to bring ear protection until the second time I shot it.

It's now in a home defense configuration but I still shoot some clays with it for old time sake.

ruger single action 357.
was maybe 10-12 years old, uncle took me and my younger brother out, sans hearing protection. we were scared to death of guns, and especially the 357 for years afterward.

My family were big shotgunners. My first gun was a Mossberg 185K, bolt action 20 gauge. Dad bought it used for me and I kept it until I stepped up to a Browning A5 after I got out of high school.

Springfield%20M-15%2022RF.jpg Springfield Model 15 single shot .22 purchased new by my father in 1941, at the age of 13, for $3.25. The money was earned from trapping rabbits. I was around 9 or 10 when he started letting me shoot it. I still have it. Its the only one of his guns I managed to get away from his :cuss: second wife.

Stevens bolt action 16ga and Stevens .22-.410 OU. They became the propetry of some crooks that broke in. Someday I'll find a replacement for the OU to give to my kids like it should have been. Handgun was my Dan Wesson .357. The woodchuck population suffered greatly with that baby!!!!

I still have the Marlin .22 that my dad owned and I learned on. Learned on? Heck, I'm 56 and my father never taught me anything. When we left NYC for the Jersey suburbs in the 50s, I would occasionally prop the kitchen door open and shoot into the backyard. Mean lil' cus that I was...I shot crows, baiting them with bread. I never gave a thought to neighbors hearing the shots (I never heard of complaints or whatever) and did it until I shot a whole through the storm door frame. Patched it up and stopped that shooting binge. Of course, I soon realized that it wasn't exactly the right thing to be killing the crows for no good reason, so a couple of years later when I was old enough, I bought a Springfield O3 A3 and went to a real range. Wish I still had that one! Thanks for jogging my memory. :D

Mid-70s Daisey "Champion 99" BB-gun. I still have it, with all original paperwork and the replacement front sights. It's probably in 85-90% condition (except for dried seals), and I actually keep it in my safe with all my "real" guns. As for non-air powered rifle......a 1981 Ruger 10/22. That's in my safe, too.....at about 98% condition. ;)

My father's .22 Crosman CO2 pellet pistol

and his Ithaca Model 49 .22 rifle. He also had a sporterized .303 Enfield I occasionally shot.

I was 8 years old. Dad's Winchester Model '06. He gave it to me many years ago.

40+ years later, it is still taken out from time-to-time. It was the rifle I used to teach my kids, and will be the rifle I use to teach my grandkids.
