What new Gun? CZ97b, SIG 239, Ruger redhawk44 mag?

I'm Torn I dont know what to buy next:

If I get a .44 mag, it would be either a redhawk, or a S&W 29/629
not sure what is better and I would have to get reloading dies for 44 mag, since it would be my first gun in this caliber.

CZ 97 anyone have one and like it .45 acp is a good round, but can you shoot .45 super in it as well???

sig 239 like new one at my local store for 399, but I have a glock 26 already that seems to beat it in every way (concealed carry, more rounds very accurate etc.).

What about a blackhawk in .357 mag (dont need new dies).

Well what do yall think?

You seem to be on the right track!

You have reasons and ideas that support/detract from your particular choice. To me that shows that you have certainly given the matter some serious and protracted thought.

Loading for the Redhawk is a lot of fun. Moreso, IMHO, than for the S&W 629 because of the added strength of the Redhawk. Reloading more than doubles your pleasure. You can load from real light 44 Special stuff up to and including the real "thunder boomer" stuff such as ammo produced by Garrett Cartridges. That's a wide spread and the Redhawk can handle it while the S&W can't.

I am also on the track of a CZ97B and whether of not it is a sufficiently strong platform for 45Super. So far it seems that it is if you increase the strength of magazine and recoil springs. Frame is more than adequate but I still need additional data before I go forward with that. I've posted this question over on the CZ Forum but no answer to date. Probably just aren't enough 97B's on the market yet for folks to make this kind of experiment. Hope this helps some. Good shooting

I would go w/ the S&W 29/629. I'm in a S&W phase right now, so I'm kinda biased that way. Plus, the 44 special/44mag versatility & your reloadin will add ALOT of variety in your shooting.

how about a super redhawk in 454 casull,you can shoot 45 long colt
gotta love the redhawk for the choices it provides,plus you just cant blow it up.

I can only speak for the one I own. A Sig 239 in 9mm.

The Sig 239 is a great gun. I love to shoot it. It has been 100% from day one. I only have about 2000 rounds through it but it is my favorite pistol. I like to shoot others but I always find myself reaching for the 239.

I have all three of those guns (Sig 239, CZ 97, Redhawk .44). Its like flipping a three sided coin as to which you should get next: each has its own unique advantages. I like each one, although being a revolver guy I'll probably end up shooting the Redhawk the most.

Why not all 3 . But seriously it sound like your on the road to a revolver I would go with the Redhawk it is a super strong gun .With the Redhawk you have to decide which one you want the regular Redhawk which comes in 5.5 or 7 inch barrel lengths or the Super Redhawk with the Monster frame which comes in 7 or 9 inch barrel lengths which ever one you get they equal=FUN.

I really don't SIG think you could SIG go wrong buying SIG any of these SIG guns. They are all SIG great guns that have SIG their own strengths SIG and weaknesses.

Being I am a bit of a SIG fan I would have to say SIG though.

CZ97b all the way. they dont like hollowpoints so much, but they are extremely accurate.

I am leaning towards either an CZ97B or a Ruger redhawk 5.5" or 7.5" in blue and .44 mag.

I dont care for the grip frame on the super redhawk, and I think the redhawk would be a good range gun, and good if they ever allow handgun hunting in DE (they are considering it) for the occaisonal barnburner handload.

I may go look at my favorite shop today.

And the winner is:

A 7.5" redhawk in 44 mag, stainless, with adjustible sights and scope rings.

I just like the grip on the redhawk better than on the super redhawk.



The CZ97B is nice but it does not fit my hands as well as a 1911
and I probably would not shoot it that much.

By the way this is my first .44 mag, along with it I bought 44 mag /spl dies, and a caliber conversion for the dillon 550, a box of bullets 240 gr hardcast, .44 mag brass,tool head etc.
I will be loading cowboy action type loads, think a light .44 spl in a .44 mag case.


This revolver may never shoot any factory ammo.

You may like the grip on the Redhawk, but you won't when you reload for it. Hot-rodding a Redhawk is fun, but those factory grips have to go unless you're into self-punishment. Mine wears a Pachmayer gripper, and I've never had trouble with punishing recoil from the heavy kickers, though I've fried one scope with 20 rounds of 300 gr loads. If you're only reloading for the light stuff, then the wood panels will be fine.
