What oil or lube should I use for my C&B's? I have used wonder lube over the cylinders but I am wondering about preserving them between shootings. I am also wondering about keeping them running during a day at the range.

As I understand it petroleum based oils create deposits and gum the actions while firing. What do ya'll use?

For the chambers and bore stay with the Wonder Lube or similar product. For the mechanical parts of the gun, you can use whatever lube you use to keep your modern guns working smoothly and rust free.

Lubes

Thompson Center Bore Butter does it for me. That and cleaning the bore of my .50 only with boiling water, gets me as many shots @ the range as I care to take, with little or no problem with fouling. Honest. And I shoot real blackpowder, not a replacement.

T/C claims that used this way, Bore Butter seasons yr bore like a seasoned frying pan. Don't know abt. that; only know that it works for me.

For the mechanical parts, +1 for Stevelyn here. Whatever works in yr. modern guns, no need to clutter up yr bench with one more oil bottle. Don't know abt you but my bench has clutter enough.

Crisco over the cylinders. After a couple cylinders the whole gun will be greased up enough that you don't have to worry about the rest of it. If you are gonna let it set for a while between loading use bee's wax. Just swab the bore every so often. After shooting and cleaning it up youi can use about any good oil, atf is similar to the sperm oil the old timers used.
