My wife told me today, i need to pick another Christmas gift. I have a Rem 7400 30-06 that needs a scope and a 10.5" AR that needs a red dot. I don't want her spending alot of money and i really don't want any high dollar optics for either of these rifles. Since Christmas is very close she wants to get something local. Bass Pro or Walmart are the only stores we have.

My choices:
Nikon Prostaff 3-9 for the 30-06
Bushnell TRS-25 mini red dot for the AR

The 30-06 is a carbine that is not the most accurate gun, so no need for a $600 scope. The AR is a pistol that will someday be an SBR. Until then it doesn't need a $500 Aimpoint.

Any other suggestions? I am trying to keep it cheap for her, but she says mid $200 is ok.

Redfield or vortex for me over Nikon, not yet done with there customer service after dying on me after 30-50rds.

I would put $250 worth of Leupold on the Remington.

My local walmart does have a few Leupold Riflemans for $230ish. I wish i would have jumped on the Bass Pro black friday rifleman for $169. They have very good glass.

The Vortex is a good idea, but she wants me to have it by Christmas. None local. I own other Nikons and they are great scopes and Nikon customer service has been good for me. No offense. I've had redfields crap out on me and so have several friends. I'm glad they've worked out for you, but i won't buy them.

I really like the 3-9x40 Rifleman scope that came on my Rem 700 30-06. Very clear, smooth adjustments, and holds zero. No frills just a quality basic scope.

Maybe wait till the after xmas sales and possibly get both?

For the AR the Bushnell is good or try a micro dot from Primary Arms. Gets good reviews and their cs is great. Everything I've ordered I've received in 3 days. If can spend more get a Vortex Sparc.

Natchez has the 3x9x40 sightron s1 with the mil dot reticle for $90 on sale.

I'm a bit of an optics snob but I'm a fan of these and having owned several and several entry level leupolds. I'll choose the sightron every time over a riflemen or vx1

Fyi the s1 is made in Japan and not that other country across the China sea who have no clue how to make serviceable optics

posted via that mobile app with the sig lines everyone complains about
