Every gun except for one, it was a Colt Govt Model 1991 (80 series) in stainless. The thing was a jam-o-matic. Never did once get thru a whole magazine without some kind of malfunction(failure to eject, stove pipes, etc) in about 100 rounds. Sent it back to colt to get it fixed, never even bothered shooting it once I got it back. Sold it 6 months later for a loss of 42% of what I paid for it.

More than 99%.:D I tend to keep mine when I get them. I have only parted with a couple that were not worth the time and effort to figure out what was wrong. I just sold them as non working parts kits so nobody would be offended by buying a junk firearm from me.

I gave my brother in law a cheap entry level 12ga pump as a HD gun a while back because I had no use for it, and he (nor my sister) owned a gun. That's the only one I've ever parted with. The rest of them aren't going anywhere any time soon.

Guns that I bought for myself...are all still here. Guns bought for my sons have moved with them. There are more guns in the safe that have been given to me than I bought. However, that number is just about to break even. Just one more purchase...:D

I've sold 57% of the guns I've bought.

Of those I sold, most of them developed functioning issues that contributed to them being sold(after repairs)

Of those I still have, only the GP100 and WASR10 have been with me for a while.

I think I still have a little over half, I've had somewhere around 50 or so total and am down to 25-30 but I've only been seriously collecting for a few years. Whenever I sell a gun I only do it if I'm going to get more than what I paid and focus on improving my collection when I prune it.

Wait... I would have sold some of them, but I lost them all in that boating accident last week.

(Just wanted to be the first guy to work the "boating accident" reference into this thread.)

Do guns I've bought as gifts count?

Taking account, it looks like I've bought a total of 12 guns so far in my lifetime.

I have exactly half of those now.

However, of the ones I no longer have:

    1 was stolen
    1 was sold
4 were bought specifically as gifts for someone else, and I never really looked on these as having been "mine".

Which means if you discount the ones bought as gifts, then I still have 6 out of 8, for a 75% retention.

I still own 100% of the guns I've bought.

Like Schwing, I wasn't aware that selling them was an option.

Too many to recall so probably not a high percentage retained. But back in the day I did a lot of wheeling and dealing; not so much the last 25 years or so.

I'm constantly rotating my collection, and keeping what interests I've settled into. I can't own them all at once.....so I will, one at a time.:D

Ive been thinning the herd for a few years now.

I want to get down to about 2 dozen handguns 4-6 shotguns and 3 rifles. Im already there with the rifles as I sold off most when I switched to Bow's. Im not very good at hitting flying fowl with a Bow so the Smooth bores have to stay. Ive been getting rid of handguns but a few still keep getting added..

Of all the guns I've bought, I've sold just under half of them. With a couple recent purchases, though, I might be back up to 50%.

Things I got used in the early 80's for a song and could sell decades later with a 500-1400% gain in value are gone..... old early Blackhawks and Redhawks were stellar performers as investments, as were some older shotguns, particularly 20 & 28 ga. sxs's.

I'll have to check my records. I tend to keep guns gifted to me or that I bought from family when they needed money (some were bought back when times were better).

Of the 13 or 14 guns I have bought over the years I have sold or given away 2 of them. One was an old H&R 410 single shot shotgun I gave to my uncle. The other was a Remington 870 Express I sold to a friend after my step-son was convicted of a felony. I took the gun so he would not get into additional trouble. I do have guns that I did not buy, they were Christmas gifts or inheritence from my parents. All of these I still have.
