Do you still own the first gun you BOUGHT?

YUP! Sold the Taurus PT-140 within 9 months of owning it (got a lemon perhaps). Best move for me...helped me start my Ruger addiction!

Nope,

First rifle was a Remington 514 .22LR my Dad got me when I was a kid. My son has it now.

First handgun was a S&W Model 10 with 5" barrel. As I recall, I paid $85 for it at a Payless Store in Mt. Vernon, WA. Gun and store are long gone.

I sure do. Bought a brand new heavy barreled Remington Varmint Special 700 chambered in .243 in 1968. Paid $180 for it and another $100 for a Redfield 4 - 12 variable scope which at that time was considered a big variable.

Safe Shooting.

Please, someone who knows "for sure", kindly answer the question in my post. I want to take care of this today. (If it's legal.)

Thanks,
KR

KR:

While I am not a lawyer (and this is not legal advice), I see nothing wrong with *giving* someone money for them to buy their own gun.

IMO, if you bought the gun for her and gave it to her because she was not legally permitted to buy one (she could not pass NICS, etc.), *that* is a straw purchase.

I am sure you can hit the ATF site and receive a clear explaination of what a "straw purchase" really is.

Congrats on wanting to help the lady out. I only wish I could buy folks SD handguns here in NY. Damn Laws :(

I bought my first gun when I was 12 years old. My parents told me I had to be 12 before I could purchase my first gun. I bought every magazine I could get my hands on and did a ton or research. The local gun store kept trying to sell me a Marlin .22 I wasn't interested in that gun. After a while I found out about the Ruger 10-22. The more I read about this great little gun the more I like what I read. after 15 months of research and saving I bought a Ruger 10-22 on special at Kmart for $119. I still have the little gun. I nicknamed it rabbit killer and it is now one of my most prized possesions.

Yup. It's a Ruger MkI .22 with a 5.5 inch bull barrel, adjustable sights, and a trigger job. I love that gun. Unfortunately, it's a jam-o-matic, but it sure is accurate. One of these days I'm going to take it to a real gunsmith and let him tune the magazines up.

Not anymore. I put my Mil-Spec SA M1911a1 from 1989 on the used guns case at my local gunshop 2 weeks ago. I went by there today and it was gone. I let it go because I was young and stupid and had the front and rear sights changed out. It never looked right after that. Anyway, I found another just like it and replaced with that one.

No, but that is one I wish I had kept.

First gun was a .380 Bersa 83. I loved it, but needed the cash to get gun #2, a 9mm Taurus PT-908 I still have this one. Got a Kel-Tec P-11 for the wife, she gave it to me, and I still have that.

Bought a Glock 19 for the Sheriff's Office when I was there. Sold it and will be getting a Glock 36.

Also bought a 2 tone Hi-Power from my best friend. He felt all bad and begged for 2 weeks to let him buy it back. I did, but if it had been a blue gun, he'd have been out of luck. That is one sweet pistol. Besides he sold his Sig P228 to somebody else when I wanted that.

Yes, I still have the Ruger Single-Six Convertible I bought new in 1972. And I still have the Marlin Mountie my uncle gave me in 1963.

KentuckyRifle - Yes. I've bought guns for other people as gifts - people I know well. It's only a straw purchase if you help her get a gun she is NOT legally allowed to possess(buy it w/your money and give it to her/buy it with her money and give it to her, etc.) Just to be sure, you could always give her the money and then go watch her buy it and see her pass the background check.

yes Sears 22 rifle
and navy arms 1851 navy

and Kentucky Rifle why not buy a gun and sell it to her for a loss. of course you'll do the paperwork and transfer so tis legal if she passes nic

No.

Wish I still had one of the first ones though, a .32 M.A.B. made in Spain. Can't even find any references about it anymore.... :(

I still have my Remington 870 12 gauge with both barrels that I bought about 3 years ago. But hey I'm a young one.
