Yeah, i love that. The "I can shoot quarter sized groups at 50 yards" guy turns out to shoot shotgun sized groups at 3 yards.

And a guy can always bench press more weight....when there's on weights around.

The ragged hole.

At 25 yards I can HARDLY see the .44 holes.

Today I thought I missed the target completely at 10 ... and there it was ... a big freaking hole of who knows how many rounds.

I stick with the regular silhouette target now, and some orange bullseyes to check my point of aim if I am going for accuracy.

Yes it is agravating to see reviews from people
that have never fired the weapon not once in their
whole lives, give reviews of the gun.Not only a particular
gun,but the whole manufacturer! They'll swear up and
down that they are the worst guns made and would,nt
own one if it was given to them.I personally won't
give a review, unless I've actually fired the weapon.
I don't go by hear say. Some people are "know it alls"
and they just have to give their review regardless. We all have
those in our lives somewhere.

What exactly?

Are you asking me if I have ever badmouthed a gun that I haven't owned or shot? (I haven't badmouthed any guns....ever. i did, once, issue a caution about not expecting too much from a Leinad .410 shotgun..... i own a Leinad. )
Or.... are you asking me to guesstimate how often it happens on the various gun fora? (I suppose it happens a lot)

Pete

I try not to bad mouth guns I have no experience with. If I am posting something I observed or an experience someone else told me about I state that. It is difficult at times not to post opinions based upon the things I read on the forum boards but I do my best not to. That is part of the reason I read a lot more than I post here. I didn't vote in the poll because I have no idea.

[sigh] We're talking about Taurus again, right?

Interesting "push poll" you have; it jumps from 50%-or-less to 100% in one step.

As I said at the outset, this poll is far from scientific. :D

Mainly a device to get people talking about the massive mountains of BS people tend to spout on the internet regarding guns they've never shot, and possibly never seen or even held. Usually, it's easy to see through the BS, but not always.

It all seems to depend on your work history. I have had to develop some highly sensitive BS filters. :D

Impossible to say unless someone actually admits that they have no personal experience to back up their claims.

For me personal the only thing I will badmouth about a gun that I've never shot or held in my hand is how it looks. If I've never shot a certain gun I won't make any claims to it's function or accuracy, if I've never held a certain gun I won't say that it has bad ergonomics or a crappy trigger. I'm a firm believer that if you are going to make a statement about the function of a product you'd better have a damn good reason to back up what you say.

The only reason I have commented on Glocks is because I owned one and shot it exclusively for almost a year. I have no idea what the hell I am talking about when it comes to any other platform.

I think over half of the negative opions that do not specify personal experience are just following the perceived pack. When I post second hand information I try to identify it as such.

I have been into guns since the fifties and have worked in a gunshop. I have seen total GARBAGE come from all the major makers. Some lemons just get out of the factories. I am not surprised at anything. Currently this is a real problems with handguns. Costs too much to send them back. I always ask the dealer if he will return the gun I am buying from him for me as he can use USPS a lot cheaper as an FFL.

A lot of people make a judgement after reading stuff on the net. Cant blame them for that as I use it for info too. If I dont have actual experience I dont comment.

I have never commented on a brand or individual model of that brand that I have not extensively used. There are brands and types that I for what every reason have concluded not to purchase and use.:what:;)

Some of the comments on gun forums that I have read just make me shake my head. There are a lot of people that think the model or brand they own has to be the best and any other brand is inferior even though they obviously have not only not owned the other brands but haven't even shot the other brands.

Calling something "crap" and then not articulating why does not help the rest of us! If you can not be objective, then tell us it is just an opinion!!!

FYI

There are reasons to "badmouth" a gun that you have not shot.

For instance, reputation. Some gun manufacturers make lots of lemons.

Some guns, due to caliber and weight are painful (small frame titanium 357s are an example). I have shot enough super light, high power guns that I don't have to shoot your LCR 357 to know that I don't like it...the 38 is too damned light IMO.

Others have features that we don't like. I am not going to tell someone that they are a jerk for picking it up and then "badmouthing it" for not liking the way that it feels in their hand and how it points for them. They don't have to shoot it for that.

I stick to the facts and don't claim to have shot things that I haven't. But I have no need to shoot certain guns.

When I do see a web review, I make sure to state that it was a web review from another source not my own perception. That is the journalist in me. All the guns I have called POS I have owned. I don't call other peoples guns POS, even if I shoot them. I consider it rude.

The Guns on my POS list-
WASR
Sigma

Guns not for me-
PTR 91 owned
Mosin carbine fired
AK's in general
SKS owned

Greatest guns in my opinion (I have fired)
M1 Garand
1903 Springfield
AR type firearms
1911 (as long as it eats what I feed it)
CZ 75B
Remington 870
Remington SP 10

Grey area (could take them or leave them)
Thompson
Turkish Mauser
Mac 10
Taurus Judge

I have noticed similar issues with people who bad mouth reloading components. I don’t think many can shoot straight.

One, a proud Camp Perry competitor, bad mouths CCI primers. He loudly claims they are inaccurate and tells folks “Friends don’t let friends use CCI primers”.

While it is great that he competes at Camp Perry a review of his scores in the President’s 100 shows that he is on the average, in the lower 16% at the end of the day. One year bottom 2%, never higher than bottom 32%.

After reviewing his ranking, and comparing his experience with those who are number one in the Nation, I came to the conclusion his accuracy problems were due to him, not anything he is using.

And yet, there are people who take his advice seriously.
