9mm Ranger and .40 S&W ranger will not penetrate windshields. we shot a car at a police gun range shooting straight at it and they just made little chips in the glass and otherwise went up and over. now they took auto glass and set it up like a target and it punched through after the second shot but how often is car windshield going to be vertical?

Another problem with windshield glass in particular is the impact absorbing lamination. The same thing that keeps you from getting a shower of glass in your lap during an accident gives the glass enough "bounce" to cause bullets with angled trajectories to skip off the surface.

If you are going to be shooting through windshields use bonded bullets.
