I would say the 40sw was defiantly apart of the design during the making of the (non 45acp) USP’s, here’s a pic I took giving you an idea of the amount of metal machined out of the slide to reduce it’s mass for shooting the lighter recoiling 9mm round, if the 40sw wasn’t a consideration in the design I doubt the 9mm slide would have needed so much metal cut out as it's slide wouldn't have started off with that much weight.
The USP40 also has one of the most fully supported chambers of any 40sw auto
