AACD,

While I am in complete agreement about consolidating powder stocks, unfortunately now, in the middle of the worst powder shortage I have seen in my lifetime, it is not really a good environment in which to be taking this on. Guys are having to make do with whatever they can find; not necessarily what they want. I'm in pretty good shape powder-wise. I have quite a few partial 1# cans that will not be replaced when they expire. Powders that I do intend to replace when available are:

IMR4895 (gotta feed those Garands), already have a lifetime supply of RL22 for LR Target/Tactical rifle loads, the super versatile IMR700X (12 gauge, .380 ACP, 9mm, .38 Special, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt), W231/HP38 (9mm, .38 Special, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt), HS-6 (12 gauge buckshot/slugs, .357 Magnum, and .45 Colt), Unique (12 gauge, .38 Special, and .45 Colt), 2400 (.30 Carbine, .357 Magnum, and .45 Colt), and IMR4227 (.30 Carbine, .357 Magnum, and .45 Colt).

Right now my only real concern is getting some more IMR700X and picking up some more W231/HP38 and HS-6 when available. I picked up another 2 moulds last week (both wadcutters - a .38 and a .45), and while I have a good supply of lead, I will be checking the local scrap yard again soon now that commodity prices have really taken a dive. Casting has really dropped the cost of reloading handgun ammo for me, and opened up the opportunity to shoot ammo that is not commercially available at any price.

Currently loading for 32swl, 38spl, 357 mag, 44 spl, 44 mag, and gearing up for 9mm. All of the above have been loaded with ww231, and are now going to be loaded with bullseye. I have loaded both magnums with aa7 and really like it in 357 as it makes my 15" buntline do things handguns aren't meant to do.

In in-between loads I have been loading 7-30waters with 30-1 for the contender but want to try a different powder to build up some speed in that 10" barrel. I also load a .256 win mag revolver round for a rifle using 2400

In rifles I am loading 30-30 and .270win. 30-30 gets 3031, .270 gets 4350. I'm wanting another small cal gun to load for, who knows what I will end up with.

Pistol - Unique, Power Pistol, 2400, and Blue Dot. I could do all my loading with Unique alone.

Rifle - IMR 4350 and 4040, plus Varget.

I like to keep it simple.

I've been working towards consolidating my rifle powders. If I sell the 243 or switch to lighter bullets I could probably get down to just two powders. Here is where I am at so far.

Varget
223 - Don't own this yet but I'm sure I will someday soon.

I fixed the title. I have no idea how I left out a word!

Kosh75287,
Trying to swap powders in a thread that isn't in the Classified Forum is a no-no.

Alliant has older data (Alliant 05) for Red Dot[=Promo], Unique and PP in 9 Mak but I have not tried them yet and the only one I would consider at the smaller charge for this round is PP. BE86 might work but no data.

Wow blue32,
do you have to count out individual flakes of Red Dot with tweezers for .32ACP? :D

Can't imagine trying to throw 1.5 to 2 grs of it with a measure:eek:

Bullseye and unique in 45 (230 gr).
#7 (147gr) and true blue (115gr) mostly for 9mm, though i have made the first 2 work for 9mm

I was just getting started when the shortages began almost 2 years ago. I managed to pick up a pound here and a pound there, mainly at guns shows, just to try them and see what I like. I have been doing test loads in 380, 9mm, 40, 45acp, 38spl and 357mag, but have been concentrating mainly on 45acp.

Handgun powders I have in stock:

CFE Pistol
Titegroup
HP38
Universal
HS6
Longshot
H110
700x
Trailboss
PB
Autocomp
WST
WSF
BE86
Bullseye
Power Pistol
Red Dot
AA#7
VV 3N37
IMR4227
SR7625
Silhouette

Not in stock but have used/borrowed:
VV N310
Unique
AA#5

Best all around pistol powders for me have been BE-86, Titegroup, Power Pistol, CFE Pistol and HP38. Several in the list above I have not had a chance to try yet, or have not tried in all the possible calibers I have.

So far the only rifle I have loaded has been 30 carbine, but I have all I need to start 223 and 308.

H110
Varget
H322
H335
CFE 223

I mostly load handgun cartridges, 30-30 is the only rifle round I currently load for.

These are almost all in 1# cans most of which I have been sought out during the shortage. Here's what I got:

Nitro 100
Ramshot Competition
Bullseye
VV N320
Tightgroup
Unique
Autocomp
Power Pistol
VV N340
VV 3N37
VV 3N38
Lil Gun
H110

and Reloader 15 for the 30-30

Unique
Red Dot
Bullseye (currently OOS)
W231 (currently OOS)
WST
WSF
AutoComp
W296
True Blue
Longshot
H110
800X

H4895
Varget
Benchmark
H4198 (currently OOS)
IMR4350
CFE223
H414
H380
Tac

Some powders get used for a wide selection of cartridges (Unique, W231, Varget, CFE223) while other have.one or two specific purposes. Like H110/W296 so far I've only used for .357mag but will also use for .50AE. True Blue is one that I could use for many loads but I keep it specifically for 5.7x28. I'd like to consolidate my powders but....with the current market availability I dont see it happening. Plus my "special purpose" powders do what I cant get any of my other powders to do.

And honestly, if I had the space and money, I'd have 16lbs+ of each and every available powder .
