1. Protection against tyranny - most importantly it should be protected for all future generations. We cannot predict what the political climate will be in 10, 20, 50, 100 years, but we damn well can enable our descendants the ability to fight any oppressive government. Just look at the last century - can anyone claim humanity has change so vastly that we are insusceptible to the same mistakes made not more than a handful of decades ago?
2. Personal protection. I firmly believe that every person has a right to protect themselves against aggression towards their person, their family and their possessions. Every criminal has to make a choice to commit an unlawful act, and I believe that when that choice includes bringing harm to others, they have stepped over the line and chosen to possibly pay their life in trade.
3. Hunting. If inclined we should be able to provide for our family by means of hunting.
4. Sporting. Firearms have been a great source of entertainment for generations in my family. They are not tools of evil and when used responsibly can be a great family bonding exercise/hobby as well.
