What rifles to choose from?

300 WIN is only an option if you are prepared to rebarrel after 1500 rounds or so. The 300 WIN is not known for barrel life. So if you go pop off 40 rounds every time you go to the range, that is a LOT of powder going down the barrel, generating a lot of heat, allowing for a lot of wear. Outside of hunting, the decision to purchase a 300 WIN should not be made lightly IMO.

Well when I look at a savage LE rifle ($800) I see a $500 stock and a $300 gun. That to me doesnt signify a rifle good at 1000 Yds. I may be wrong though. I've heard nothing bad of the 700 Police, and haven't heard really anything on the FN Patrol Bolt Rifle. And the Savage is supposed to be right up there with the Remington, but I've heard a few downfalls on the savage
