I've been breaking in and carrying a new LCP lately...I really like the size and comfort and how easy it is to conceal now that the warmer months are coming up...So far I've run Speer gold Dots and Hornady critical defense through it as far as SD ammo goes...I'll probably stagger some FMJ's in there as well...Just wondering what your carrying for SD in yours (or any 380)as I'd like to hear some options from those who have actually checked out other SD rounds...Thanks in advance...

If I were limited to factory loadings Id say Speer Gold Dots.
Im going to test function and then carry these when they are delivered:

from what I have seen the TCP/LCP/P3AT move bullets out of the tube about 100fps slower than a PPK/s

I have their Golden Sabres now. I had him water them down a bit, about 50fps, I wanted them close to 1000fps (factory GS's move at 940fps) and while they pack a hell of a punch, I didn't like the results from my informal backyard testing (I blame the bullet design, not the loader)

I run gold dots in mine currently. You may want to reconsider staggering FMJs in yours... the only malfunction I've had (other than the DPX mentioned below) ocurred when I was doing that. May have not been related to that practice, but I'm just going all JHP for now.

I've run Federal premium, remington golden saber, hornady XTP, Cor-Bon DPX (my pistol didn't like it), Cor-Bon 90gr JHP, and Buffalo Bore (not recommended in this pistol, but ran fine). There may be others I'm not remembering. From what I've READ and seen in ballistic testing, the gold dot does about as well as anything and it's been 100% reliable. Not stellar, but nothing in .380 is.

If I had one, I'd go with the 102 grain Golden Saber, it's about the heaviest JHP you can get in the caliber.

I'm a believer in the heaviest bullet for the caliber, especially in barrels short for the caliber, so I carry the 102gr Remington Golden Saber in the little .380ACP pistols.

Given its marginal penetration, I'm hoping expansion is poor to none out of the short barrel.

i started with critical defense my first 2 boxes and got a few "duds" so i switched to gold dots which work flawlessly for 400+rounds. i have been trying critical defense again with much better luck 200 rounds no problem, but still carry it with gold dots

my lcp has more then 2500 rounds and has only failed on 2 critical defense rounds early in the count.

Another vote for ball: I'm carrying Blazer Brass in my BG 380 right now because I don't trust those little .380 cartridges to push a hollow point to reliable expansion given the variables of winter clothing, body position of the assailant and distance.

I wouldn't be worried so much about them not expanding as I would be about them expanding but not penetrating very deep.

My Diamondback which is obviously not an LCP but close enough to size and design,my old one of past and the new one of present appears to do fine with the Golden Sabers but I have read and seen so many different results of hollowpoint ammo coming out of a .380 that I just carry the Winchester Whitebox 95 grain flat nose fmj.
They will certainly penetrate if nothing else and once they cut meat it's a nice round hole.
And even during the great ammo drought of 2008 through early 2010 they were still available but the scalpers had their blood up when you went to pay for them.
