I've got a couple LCP's and they all run well with both FMJ range ammo as well as my SD ammo of choice (hornady critical defense).

My question is how many rounds would you go before replacing recoil springs or just go until it starts demonstrating failures?

The recoil springs do more than just cycle the slide, they also absorb, or dampen recoil.

If the springs get too weak the pistol may still function but the slide will begin to hammer the takedown pin and frame.

I think 500 to not more than a 1000 rounds and even less with some of these small pistols would be time to replace the springs, they are not really that expensive.

Call Ruger tech support. They can give you a real answer (hopefully) rather than a guess. I have one with 2000+ rounds on the original spring and haven't noticed any I'll effects yet.
