I realize this may be a silly tradition, but I generally reward myself with a pistol when I land a new job. It's a reward system I created back in the 90s and it's worked for me. Well, I just landed a new job so I'm asking for suggestions from you guys on what to procure next and why. Kinda frivolous I know, but it may make for interesting discussion... plus it will probably affect my decision process.

Note:
  • These days, I'm mostly interested in carry pistols.
  • I've recently sold a Glock 21, a Taurus 44magnum 8", and a CZ75 because they really served no purpose for me.
  • I'm not as fond of revolvers right now because of the limited capacity/size ratio
  • I've recently put Crimson Trace laser grips on several of my handguns because the laser fits me where I am right now

Here's the list of handguns I own (I may have forgotten some):
  • Glock 17, 23, 27, 30, 36
  • Sig P6
  • H&K P7 PSP
  • CZ P01, CZ RAMI
  • Kel-Tec PF9, P11, P3AT
  • S&W 442
  • Ruger SP101
  • Kahr MK40
  • Taurus PT145
  • XD 9mm tactical
  • NAA mini 22mag and 22lr

What do you suggest? Thanks for playing.

You need a 1911 in the mix, STI has some great not too pricey models. Maybe go out on a limb and get a Colt 1911, or buy one (or two like I did) in 9mm. Nothing shoots quite like a good 9mm 1911.

Next handgun

To be honest the list you have there is a bit too diverse to give a single suggestion. You may just want to take a month and go through as many as you can and find the one that fits you best.

You had a CZ 75 so the Rami might be something that would fit you well. With that being said there is a bounty of great conceal pistols out right now. From your list you have both single and double stack pistols in there. Might want to narrow it down a bit to get a list that is more manageable.

Congrats on your new job.

I would look at the CZ P-01 or - if you don't need its accessory rail - PCR. They are noticeably smaller and lighter than the CZ75, thus easier to carry all day, but still big enough to shoot well.

When it comes to new guns I look what is for sale. Today it was Sig Sauer 250 in either .40 or 9x19 for $379. It sucks that it only comes with one magazine but other then that there isn't much not to like. I'm sure it will do just at well as Glock, M&P, xd,...... Frankly I can hardly tell them apart.

Not all that silly. I typically get a new gun with Major good changes at work. New job, bonus, etc...

I will be starting a new job in a few weeks and am looking forward to a new rifle.... :)

:D

I like my CZ 75B Worth a look if you're into full size 9mm. Very accurate pistol.

I'm thinking a Browning Hi Power should be in the mix somewhere.

Crimson Trace makes a nice laser for the BHP too.

Great replies. I forgot to mention that I sold my 1911 too... I've decided I'm just not a 1911 guy [gasp].

Sig 250 is worth a look, thanks. And for less than 400. Pablo, was that at a local shop?

I'd love to get an H&K P2000sk, but it's just sooo pricey, and I'm just not sure it gives me anything I don't have already.

You need to define a purpose, need or desire before you can decide which gun fills it best.

Buying a gun and THEN deciding what the purpose of it is........never works out very well.

Yeah, when I said I was mostly interested in carry pistols, I was trying to communicate that its primary purpose would be for defensive carry.

I count at least 15 "carry pistols" in your list. What would a 16th carry gun do the other 15 could not?

Answer that and we can zero in on a gun that'll work.

Sorry. No suggestions. There is something annnoying about you. Maybe its that you sold a CZ-75 and 1911.

:D

Hmmmm.

Maybe you could theme your gun to your job? For instance, a job as a woodworker would mean buy a nicely stocked rifle, a job as a carpenter ... get a solid gun you could use as a hammer, job as a cop ... get a classic revolver. That sort of thing. Alternatively, maybe customize what you have?
I have started actually sinking work and money into guns, rather than buying more stock ones and can't decide which is more rewarding.

agreed you have many good carries.

you "need" a German p220:)

David, may I ask your permission to buy another pistol despite the fact that I already have others? Only with your permission though.

Okay, so I hear a vote for PPS and Beretta 92 of some sort and a Sig 220. Noted

Nushif, I hear you... I'm a psychotherapist & the new job's in the Emergency Room. Maybe a Taser would follow the theme of shock therapy.

And wow, Pilot, most people actually have to meet me before they find me annoying.

Damn man, how many times have you changed jobs?!?! :) Sig is coming out with a new carry weapon, the 290 I believe, in a few months. Single stack polymer 9mm weighing about 20 oz. You might want to wait a bit for them to work the kinks out, but you'd be adding something new to your arsenal. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Why not get something way different from what you already have- maybe a S&W 686, or even a single action of some sort? Expand your collection...

You asked what to get, not if you could get. I'm all for someone buying another gun, but it always helps to know what function the gun is supposed to serve. Especially when they have 15 other guns that serve the same basic function. Lacking a refined purpose/function, it's difficult for strangers to zero in on one for you. The result is everyone suggesting a gun THEY like.

Buy one you like.

most people actually have to meet me before they find me annoying.

Not everybody.............
