P11 and here's why.....

It covers all of your parameters. I owned one of these and it would be a formidible close-quarters self defense pistol.

No other gun of it's size has the 10+1 full 9 mm capacity.

It is completely flat and easily carried IWB or in the pocket in a squeeze.

It weighs less than 20 oz fully loaded. It is a true double-action in that if you get a "click" just squeeze the trigger again for a "bang."

It has 3-dot sights. (Tritiums are an option)
The P11 has many aftermarket options and even an enthusiasts' forum:
The kel-Tec Range or KTOG. I learned more about practical pistol maintenance from these forums than from anywhere else.

The only possible drawback is the rather l-o-n-g trigger pull. I disagree with some that say the P11 has a heavy trigger; on the contrary, I find it light and smooth, just rather long.

Accuracy is quite good from 10 yards on in. Think about it.....When are you going to be shooting at a target in self-defense from beyond 10 yards? Possibly never.

Kel-Tecs are warrantied for life. I've owned the P11, P32, and P3AT and you will appreciate the simplicity of maintenance on their products.
Kel-Tec backs their guns with excellent customer service.

Some say Kel-Tecs have reliability problems. You may hear of more but there are not many manufacturers that sell guns in mass quantities like Kel-Tec so I think it is a matter of ratios.

Good luck on your first purchase.

Out of the choices listed the Taurus pt111 is a very good gun. It is a really good size and weight for CCW. I really wish that I had not sold mine. Taurus' customer service is very good as well. The pt111 matches every requirement that you have listed.

I know several people that carry the Glock daily and loke the thing. Don't count it out. If you want a durable gun you can't go wrong with the tupperwear.

Someone also mentioned the Sig 239 9mm. If you haven't, try to look at one of these. You may be able to pick up a used one very near you price. My dealer has a used on on the shelf right now for $425. The boss has let my buy 3 guns this month other wise the Sig would be in the safe.

Why such small guns? Your choices expand greatly with a slight increase in the overall envelope.

Dear David:

When reading the list of pistols this first time, the same thoughts crossed my mind...

...so, unless undercover use/hiding/deep concealment is absolutely mandatory, I'd rather purchase a somewhat more substantial gun.

Thanks.

Yet another vote for the XD-9. I took a CCW class with a fellow who had a new one. He shot lights out with it, no malfunctions for about 700 rounds right out of the box. I wish I could say the same for my Kimber!

I may have missed this in an earlier post but I highly suggest renting a wide range of guns before you buy.

I didn't vote because to be honest I wouldn't carry a single one of those thing listed. Darn - why restrict yourself to those pussy ;) guns.

Lotsa guys rail against carrying Full Size handguns. I've never understood the problem. All I've ever carried are full sized pieces IWB. So far I've carried a Glock 22, a Sig P220 and a CZ-75B. The Sig was the most comfortable but not apprecialbly so over the others.

I am sure there are good reasons to carry those itty bitty guns and if that's what is necessary for you then that's what you should carry but don't rule out a full size.

thank you all for your comments

I just remembered I posted this thread. The reason I didn't want a glock sub is because I already owned one, and was not accurate with it at all due to the double stack mag. Not to mention it was pretty uncomfortable IWB. I decided on the PT111 duotone. I shoot it well, and it fits my hand so perfectly. Plus a neighboring suburbs police force uses it exclusively, so there goes combat tested. I should be picking it up friday:D.

Oh yea about the size issue. I guess I evolve with society, as life goes on things get smaller and more efficent, so that idea has pretty much spilled into every facet of my life (not that I'm that old mind you, I'm only 26). But even a large frame gun has its place, hell if you run out of bullets you can always (hopefully) club the perp to submission..........................:p
