What should mMy next rifle be,

M1 Garand (I'm going to build one)
Mosin Nagant (91/30 or M44?) and ammo
Mauser 98k?

You shouldn't put the M1 in a poll... It always wins... always... I think it even beat the AR-15 in one of those "If you only had one rifle..." polls.

Anyway, it's all surp in your list so of those, buy the one you can get the best deal on now and then hunt for the others over the weeks/months ahead.

Heck, the M1, of course, BUT I voted 98k because you're going to build the Garand.
I think in the next 2-3 years the supply of even beat up captured 98k's is going to dry up, pretty much for good.

I am a pretty big fan of the 98k, the M1 is a great gun no doubt but the Mauser just has a great feel and LOTS of history. Some others you may want to consider is a Swiss K31, a Springfield 1903 (CMP has ones with Mann Accuracy Devices and chopped stocks), or an M1 Carbine (would have voted other for this one...but figured you wanted a MBR with a larger cartridge). :)

If you don't have one yet, get a K31 (for a reasonable price) while you still can. Only half a million were made, and in milsurp terms that's nothing.

Other.

Get an M1 Garand, but don't try to build one.

They are a lot more difficult build then an AR-15 LEGO set unless you have all the tools and guages needed.

Of all the guns I have owned there is only one I would not trade for anything (well except maybe if someone offered me $10,000 then I would just buy another)

My 1.1 million Springfield M1 Garand (built January 1943). Was a Danish return. Sports USGI, Italian, Danish, and Korean parts.

Garand.

Just asking, but what do you mean you are going to build one?

Have you compared the money it will take for you to buy everything compared to buying a SG or FG (heck, even a Special Grade) from CMP? Do you know you can do it? Absolutely?

The obvious answer is the Garand, but we already knew it'd win. With that being said, I voted for the 98k as a "secondary" for whenever the M1's finished.

I'm going to buy the parts and put them to gether, all the parts will be USGI and will have Good or better original finish, most of the parts are already assembled, and I will be able to put most if not the whole rifle together, and it will only be $130 (+shipping) more then a service grade M1 from CMP.
